Still a muggy 21, change pushing past Ulladulla now. Hopefully has some cooler air with it.

It's a pity that there does not seem to be anything else with it.

It is probably just me but why do I have the feeling the forecast for today will be down graded to just "partly cloudy" with no precip what so ever.

Hope I'm wrong but this boring weather is getting to me.

I'll log off for a while now.

See you when the weather gets exciting again wink

I've heard that the ocean water temp is fairly nice now but forget the beach is in the next 7 days because air temps will be too cool.

Just to top that off, Aquabumps said yesterday that the persistent NEer has taken care of the ocean temps too and they're back to frigid for the time being

Unfortunately the dreaded grey marine fungus has closed in, probably for the rest of the day, so there is no visibility. It does seem very dark just for marine layer, although the satellite picture is not available so you can't see what's going on.

The radar shows cells developing to the SW of Sydney, the closest near Camden, moving Eastwards. However, the Southerly seems to have strengthened (OH has dropped over 4 degrees in the last 90 minutes), so there's a layer of cool, stable air on the coast between the surface and any instability. Those storms might not hold together.

There's a small left-mover of note out near Camden.

Here on the coast it's drizzly and cool and doesn't feel at all like anything could happen.

The SE breeze is quite fresh here, but out of the wind the air still has some warmth and feels humid. 25 degrees. No marine layer as yet. Good shear so storms might beat scum.....

Those storm cells seem to be falling apart as they come off the Tablelands, maybe as they encounter the Southerly.
=====

We actually had a significant cold front pass through Sydney this morning, dropping temps by over 5 degrees at OH and nearly 7 at Penrith. This wasn't mentioned in this morning's forecast, nor does is appear on our synoptic chart, although the NZ Met shows a front near Sydney at 1:00 PM (11:00 AM our time). People who dressed for today's forecast might get a chilly shock when they leave their air-conditioned offices to go home this afternoon.

A more accurate forecast synopsis for the general public in Sydney, assuming that the day has unfolded as the BOM we're expecting, might have been something like "Warm early before a cool change. Possible afternoon thunderstorm in the West".

The coastal upwelling from the NE winds is joining forces with the strong evil eddy off the central coast of NSW. You couldn't have designed it better if you were a maker of wetsuits.

Wouldn't have made a difference to most people. The only forecast most people see are on the crap apps on their phone or in the elevator at work. You get one icon and the max temperature plus a couple of words if you're lucky.

It is a shallow southerly, so you might do alright. Here along the coast is full deck of scud, temp slowly dropping. 23c currently.

Light rain has started here. There's a blob of light to moderate rain moving through Sydney from the West. A red cell is crossing South of Camden. There doesn't seem to be any lightning. Penrith, Camden and Campbelltown have received 4 - 6 mm.

ICE CREAM VENDOR ALERT: For people in Southern and Central NSW East of the Divide.

The BOM has issued to alert to ice cream vendors for Thursday 15th through to Sunday 18th, for cloudy skies, chilly Southerlies, the odd light shower and generally crap weather. No one will want to go to the beach or other outdoor venues and ice cream sales are expected to suffer.

EDIT: at least the Sotherlies might 'repair' the ocean temperature. I have noticed recently that temperatures at Sydney Harbour and other locations right on the coast are often cooler than the temperature shown by MHL, even in yesterday's weak sea breezes with no solar heating to speak of. These must be determined by the temperature of waters close to the shore (i.e. within 10 km).

Had some nice steady rain here this afternoon.
Started off as drizzle from the south around 3 pm. Intensified to light/moderate rain around 5 pm for a good hour or so, from the west with that rain band that Steve spoke of earlier.
Then returned to the drizzle from the south again.
I had to pick my daughter up from the local shopping centre at 7 pm, and the sky looked dismal - very northern Scottish like. Foggy, drizzly, dank, dark and dim. Visibility down to a km or so. And feeling very cool. It was extremely blustery - almost ECL like.
It's still like that atm.

Looks like a nice storm down at the northern beaches. Can anyone explain why this is happening now. When we had warmer temps earlier with the sun. Only thing i can think of is because the southerly winds are weakening.

Just some heavy rain and a few rumblings here under the dark red/black area of the radar.

Hey Homer,
I switched off for a bit listening to music but just checked and there is a few flashes and rumbles atm which is a surprise.

Just light rain here as it's just to the north by probably a few km's.

Still good no matter what.
