Could well be our first decent clean light show for the 2018/2019 season as a trough moves through eastern parts of the state tomorrow.

Adelaide could get a rumble or two in the early hours of the morning (4-5AM) but does look to be sliding south so near the Southern Suburbs to Fleurieu Peninsula looks to be the best bet for the morning for close shots.

Cloud will then clear to make for a hot day tomorrow allowing for good surface based heating in an alreay unstable atmosphere. A LLJ of 30-40kts will become present as well adding to the elevated fire risk for a few districts.

Lower Eyre Peninsula looks to be the best spots for some potential action later tonight, as the West Coast and the southern parts of the North West Pastoral districts are already experiencing storms, and especially from tomorrow afternoon, before extending SE towards the Adelaide Area by around Sunset. Some Storms are expected to be quite gusty as well.

Models are all agreeing with one another so fingers are crossed for a good evening/night of photogenic bolts

Going off its chops again, nice setup for classic high based storms tonight, jet working them well, nocturnal cooling etc sliding down SE....good upper divergence etc with LLJ kicking in as well. Best stuff will be over West Coast/Ep tonight but chance for Adelaide and gulfs after 3am or so more likely 5-7am but bit tricky to be sure because its unstable out there now and already odd weaker cell in the souther gulfs and more over KI and LSE....

Tomorrow mix of sfc based and elevated but by lord EP will explode away as will the NW Pastoral areas, streaming ESE....bit over the Upper SE/LSE as well, watch boundaries before goes elevated again tomorrow night ahead of main change, best stuff tomorrow night mostly north of the city I'd suggest streaming down all night long...EP, Mid North, Mallee etc all plenty of potential for good bolts.

Adelaide bit of a lull after dawn before chances of more later in day streaming from EP etc.

TS cool

It came in but ran out of puff, had a very long journey with lots of upper muck to contend with.

We still have the upper muck but it is gradually thinning from the west, quite unstable, won't take a lot more heat to get things underway, especially over the Eyre Peninsula. Also there is a little 700mb speed max/shortwave that will come flying down off the top of the Bight ESE to reach Adelaide mid evening or sort and intensify...this could be the main trigger for our nocturnal activity so keep watch on it as it moves towards us, could really kick up thunderstorms strongly over the West Coast and EP later and they will move quickly.

TS cool

Pretty decent chance of a storm or two in Adelaide this evening epthunda. Hard to say with certainty though. EP is where the best storms are likely to be this arvo.

Good to hear of some potential action this evening. Just got back from my first dip of the season at Largs Bay. Was a bit choppy out and the water was certainly fresh but still enjoyable.

I'm down on The beach getting a fantastic show. Some great long branchy CG's, and awesome crawlers from the cell down south. One over YP is starting to fire up now too

Black core Mcclaren Vale - Strath, very lighting active, can see some flashes from here and very distant rumbles. Radar indicating we may see something further North in Adelaide in the next hour or so. Lightning Maps.org seems to be working much better now.

Very frequent lightning / thunder here but i thought thunder would be louder than it is. Rain just started.

Long time no see, been super busy this year.

That was one loud storm had a couple of big shotgun rumbles 15mins ago and now it's gone quiet with the odd rumble to the east. Looks like a couple of smaller cells coming in from Yorke Peninsula.

Had distant rumbles from the cell at the "heel" of Yorke Peninsula at about 11pm last night with mainly sheet lightning (from our vantage point at home - shed blocked view closer to the horizon).

Woke up to more distant rumbles at around 4am which progressively got louder prompting me to get up and have a look. Saw a couple of CG's simultaneously strike a few km? to our NW with almost instantaneous intensely loud thunder.

Another loud clap of thunder, then the big drops of rain started
to fall.

2.5mm of rain was shaken out of the clouds, a welcome refresher for the garden.

Must say, it's been the best start to a summer storm season for a number of years.

Great night. Sat on the tank and watched the cell down at McLaren vale, could hear the rumbles from the big flangs. Then woken up at 3am or so by daughter who was woken by the storms so we sat on the back veranda for a bit and watched the show.

That light I would guess is a transformer on a power line blowing it's load after getting hit.

138,000 lightning strikes I just heard quoted on the radio. Pretty sure going by memory, that's more than what was seen on the infamous Nov 5 2012.

I was on yorke Peninsula early morning, that will remain as the most spectacular lightning show I've seen for some time I think. I've seen slightly better flash rates in the past from MCS, but this was a near pure bolt fest at times. Absolutely spectacular.

I saw this this too. My video got some of it but not as good as yours did - my guess was a power transformer arc and death.

Yep the green flash was a transformer being blown up from the bolt, had a few transformers go in the area as one went to my north.

No doubt the best flang display I've ever seen at home, downright crazy and breaking the rules. Had to drive the F stop to 16 to capture some of the spekky bolts and usually not outside when bolts are that close.
