With zero sign of buildup, even humidity is in scarce supply which is totally not my normal experience for this time of year

Have noticed a rise in humidity here on the coast and the last few nights have been rather warm.

It feels good for some showers later in the pm perhaps.

Finished October with an average max of 31.6c which makes it my hottest by 1.8c and 2.3c above my average. Minimum was about average with 16.9c. Hottest day was 37.4c which is 1.3c above my previous hottest October day.

November is going to be a hot one I think. Just hope we get some nice storms!!!

Yeah Scott, was in your area this morning. Bit sticky. Nice breeze out here saving me some electricity.

Looks to be a nice SE fetch beginning. Looking good out behind the Big Island at the mo. We will see, early days.

Yes, shirt dampness level def increased last 2 days. Maybe you have acclimatized a little more Wandjina laugh.

Couple of juicy looking SE fetch clouds this arvo, havent seen those for a while. Put the sprinkler on for a bit to make sure we get a little something haha.

13.6mm for October, long way from the 264mm from last year or my record, 394mm in 2011. Most other years are 40-60mm.

4mm overnight from many small showers. Cooled things down a bit which was nice.

Ron you sent me back to my records to check October last year. I recorded 285mm but I had only recently arrived, so that was for the last three weeks of the month. This year I had 18mm and that was from an early morning storm that snuck up. Otherwise it has been clear days.

Morning all smile I'm new here, thought it'd be a good time to introduce myself now that we're onto a new thread for the build up - been lurking for ages though!
I'm living at Newell Beach just 5 minutes north of Mossman. Love this place! Can't wait for the wet season to kick off.
Lots of heavy showers overnight, don't know the mm's, must get myself some recording equipment!
Strong breeze off the ocean is so welcome, it's sticky thismorning.

It is hard to compare Hickory. Using what they have on cumulus, which is the average wind speed over the whole month my previous years are

2015 avg speed 5.3km/h Highest gust 41.8km/h
2016 avg speed 4.7km/h Highest gust 37.0km/h
2017 avg speed 3.8km/h Highest gust 41.8km/h
2018 avg speed 3.9km/h Highest gust 35.4km/h

The only reason 2017 is lower is due to that week of rain we had where there was bugger all wind. The rest of the month was really windy. Looking at the graph it would have been on par with 2015 if we didn't have that unusual rain event.

It would be nice if you could compare just daytime winds.

Anyways looking ahead we might get an ok MJO pulse during the middle of the month so should start to see an increase in rain/storms in about 10 days time. Would be nice to get a wet November. Only time will tell.

Good morning Birdie and welcome..

The sprinkler topped off the raingauge last night so roughly I'd say we had between 10-15mm... I could still see dry, bare dirt beneath the Bromeliads and trees though....definitely looking forward to some more showers..

We had 12mm here Scott.
I see the rain hasn't lost it's sense of humour or timing.....
Right on cue, just before the kiddies leave to go to school down it comes.....

Good to see some people getting some rain. Hopefully some makes it out here this evening.

Last time I recorded more than single figures was on March 27th. frown

That rainfall was all in 8 days from October 16th here, so I'd say you probably got it all mate smile

G'day Birdie and welcome. We like pics smile

Had intermittent, light, slightly annoying, sideways showers in Feluga today. There was a green tinge already.

One of these should get you started. Easily worth the $25.
