3c warmer than this time yesterday.

What I find interesting is how much lower the DP is generally at MAP compared to town and surrounds. Currently ~5c higher here and at gorge creek orchards ~4c higher. Wonder why?
Makes me want to take my station out there and set it up for an hour or 2 to compare readings to see if mine is working correctly. Can tell by the feel that the DP is higher than 17.9c here though.

Canon Park racecourse already reached 39.5 for the day exceeding the forecast max of 37'c.

Airport reached 38.7'c... will we see 40'c today ??

Good chance some places around Cairns have reached 40'c already for the 4th day in a row.

Racetrack peaked at 40.1c at 11.04am, all under variable easterly winds- quite strange not having the westerly component to fuel the rising temp.

BW: Iced Coffee's been good to me wink

That's the only sensible solution in this type of wx, BW. smirk

http://www.weatherzone.com.au/news/record-40-degree-trifecta-in-cairns/528824

Cairns nudged above 40 degrees for the third day in a row today, extending its unprecedented run of late-spring heat as temperature records continue to tumble in eastern Queensland.

Prior to 2018, Cairns had never recorded a day over 40 degrees during November. This week, there have been three in a row. This trio of days over 40 is a new record for November and has only been recorded once during summer, back in February 1923, at the city's old Post Office site.

Today's heat follows similarly high temperatures on Monday and Tuesday, which were caused when a mass of hot air combined with westerly winds, carrying inland heat towards the coast. A weather station at Cairns Racecourse hit 43.6C on both Monday and Tuesday, which is higher than any temperature previously recorded at the Cairns Airport and Cairns Post Office weather stations during any month, which collectively have data stretching back to 1889.

Now four in a row for the record books, RD.

Such a nice breeze here for the last 3 hours. Gusting to 20kts.
The wind has been veering from it's NNE about lunchtime and is now just about ENE. The DP has also dropped 6 since 12:30, making it quite pleasant with the wind blowing through the house.

What a lovely cool change. Went from 40c to 32c in 30 mins. Still falling at 2.5c/hr. Would never have thought I would look forward to a NNE wind change. Bliss!!!

EDIT: Have you ever seen anything so beautiful.

Yep, it 's good. I've got the ENE coming straight off the water here.
It rips in through the front door and windows and out the back sliding doors and windows, trying to tie the vertical drapes in a knot on it's way through. crazy

I actually woke up cold last night and had to turn the ceiling fan off. 19.3c

Forecast to get to 40c again today. Currently 28.6 with 64% humidity. Very smoky this morning too.

Sooo the ol' termite mound thing. As I have mentioned before I have noticed the termite mounds build up about 1-2 weeks from heavy rain. Just a coincidence probably but in 2015 they started going up around the 10th of Dec, 2 weeks out from rain. 2016 they started going up around the 20th Dec, 10 days out from rain. In 2017 they did not go up at all until the first week of January 2018, about 10-14 days from heavy rain. This year they started going up about 3 days ago. We shall see. poke

Nov/Dec 2015 I remember ants up and down the lane way built multiple entry/exits in min volcanic mounds. Never seen anything like it before or since.

The grass was greening up nicely by mid December. It was a very wet Christmas and the most rain we've had since Yasi.

It was a coolish night last night, eventually. I pulled the blanket up in the early hours.

36.8 already at 9.10am.
21% humidity.

It *will* reach 40 again and reckon it's gunna be a horrible afternoon -- unless we get a storm.

I've never wanted aircon, but beginning to understand why people use it...
