My thoughts are that if the storm season starts early in August or September you end up with a quiet ridgy Nov/Dec.

August and September were the 'traditional' dry months in SE QLD. We had relatively few westerlies in August compared to years ago also.

Brisbane's wettest period on average is the first 3 months of the calendar year. I wouldn't be expecting too many (if any at all ) rain events for November or even December, generally the rain comes in the form of storms. Ken might be able to correct me on this.

This graph for median monthly rainfall at the current Brisbane site (since 1999) summarises it well gleno:

It can happen like that. Not sure if it was last year or the year before, Sydney got next to no storms in there spring / Summer period, yet lately they have had some good ones. All the recent action seems to be south of the Border. I am sure we will get several more days of storm outbreaks.

You guys have done better than us for storms Gleno. Most of our storms have been imbedded thundery rain, nothing much to look at really, apart from a storm 2 weekends ago, but even that was very stock standard for mid Spring.

Speaking of storms, models start to gain interest towards the end of the week. On Friday EC have storms for the inland parts of NE NSW / SE QLD but GFS not showing as much interest. On Saturday GFS have a severe outbreak but EC not showing as much interest, no doubt that will chop and change over the coming days.

Yes, a windy, cloudy 19-20 here on Sunday sounds like a raw November day to me. I am so glad that heat wave earlier this month was short lived but.

Can anyone provide a brief analysis of what may happen on the weekend in SEQ. I am thinking of dragging the boat to Rainbow Beach on Friday and heading offshore Saturday. Any thoughts on the timing of SE change and associated rain?? Thanks in advance.
PS duty forcaster said they would be upgrading precip for Sunday

Current Access and GFS suggest the change may impact southern parts on Saturday morning, but would not reach Rainbow Beach until late afternoon or evening. Nothing particularly special about the set up, but it is November so severe weather certainly possible. Subject to change of course as we get closer to the day.

Thanks Mike - was hoping for a Sunday morning wind change. But as you say not set in concrete yet. Rainbow beach seems to be a target for storms lately.
