Probably deserves its own thread I think. Southerly looks well-timed for southern parts of SEQ on Saturday. Haven't really looked at it much more than that though.

That might work for us Stevo. Very weak instability out there looked promising a lot earlier.Guess the cap has put a lid on things just to put the icing on the cake.

Brisbane now going for possible severe storms. Game on now . Massive seabreeze today on the Gold Coast might create a inversion

Latest EC has jumped back on board for down there too. Little surface low forms onshore along the change before heading north and out to sea.

Incidentally, tomorrow (Fri) marks the 10yr anniversary of the infamous Gap storm (good setup including a coastal change).

The first doppler wind image is a side-on view or slice through the microburst from the now-decommissioned CP2 research radar at Redbank Plains (the dual-polarisation tech in it helped in its subsequent implementation into the Mt Stapylton radar to aid forecasters) while the second image is the PPI view:

How did a tornado not form in that beast? Goes to show how much more powerful American storms are. That wind and hail though.

That was an amazing day. Iíll never forget the noise of the cell as it past through the back of Kenmore heading north over the hills to the Gap.

That is so similar to what hit us last month. I should put all my footage together and youtube it. They are scary to be in even when you love a good storm. Sure get the adrenaline going!

I will never forget driving from Sunshine Coast to Carseldine towards that storm at freeway speeds, and beating it home by just a few minutes. Crazy rapid transition from billowing white clouds on the horizon to beastly rotating wall cloud almost overhead. Was intense enough to blow over one moderate sized tree in our block of townhouses as I watched, although judging by lack of other damage the tree was obviously weak.

Ken, Thanks for the reminder of the '08 storm.
The first Stapylton radar image you posted (1630 AEST) is when the storm was directly over my place. The thing I remember most about the storm, that I had never seen before or since, was small hail not falling vertical but with enough sideways velocity from the wind that it was hitting my house windows that are normally protected by the eaves. Luckily the windows survived, but it changed my perspective on how hail damage can occur.

Only a month or so ago I was chatting to the lady who lived next door to the house in the video Ken posted above, and she was absolutely convinced that a tornado went through. I'm from Kin Kin, where we've had at least 5 tornadoes, so I don't have any trouble believing it.

I honestly believe there were at 2 brief touchdowns that I know of. One was in Brendale, I took a drive with my wife and just off Linkfield Road/ Southpine Road there were a number of signs absolutely twisted and snapped off unlike straight line winds. Torque Ford when it was at Brendale, had its main door in a twisted mess. The staff said they believed it to be a tornado. 100 meters away you could see straight line wind damage at Northside Trusses.

As we drove further into Albany Creek then along the Jinker Track the debris was mind blowing. That was 100 % Straight line winds from a microburst. Just hundreds of gum tress snapped and lying facing the NNE.

The second brief touchdown was actually at Bracken Ridge. We took shelter downstairs and we witnessed a stove pipe rain wrapped tornado that ripped of a Whirlybird from our neighbours house and we had debris off small branches and leaves rotating at 360į. The roar was unbelievable. Unfortunately due to the rush to get downstairs I did not grab a camera.

I was on another forum and was assured by all the people down south that it was just straight line winds.

Now with the quality of the camera on phones and video I will not ever let that happen again as to not taking photographic evidence.
