Day 9 and still no bloody idea if we will get home before we have had lots of rain. They seem to be waiting for that.

Still being lied to by those who say 'trust us'. Poor woman whose house burnt down on the 25th November was told officially on the 1st December. They will not escort her into the property that the fire assessor has told her still has some salvageable items such a some pictures and that but they can escort media crews around. She is so stressed that the looters will be in.

I am windburnt. I am not enjoying this weather at all.

I'm sure that we will get something today, slight thunder to the sw and rather dark. Looks good for down your way too bundybear.
Pity the Gladstone radar is offline!

Thought there may be a storm in Rocky as the tv is playing up with some channels breaking up and others as no signal.

Wish the radar was online.

I assume it is coming to Yeppoon?

Insane driving home, water over the street gutters, debris everywhere, 2 doors up has had a huge branch of their Norfolk pine go through the living room roof, and let all the rain in!

At long bloody last. 10 days after leaving home we are back. Got home in time to pull the pipes that connect the gutters to the tanks before the rain.

Places we were told were being consumed by 12 metre walls of fire are untouched. Fire has burnt oddly. Goodness knows how our house stands except our small house dam seems to have directed the flames around our house instead of straight into it.

Looks like we might have had a chopper drop water. Things that really should have burnt didn't.

My fruit trees are either gone or pretty well buggered. I had my nectarine tree for about 20 years.

Firies have done a good job but the admin is being questioned heavily. I especially question why we were locked out so long when our area had already burnt and was safe.

Lovely storm tonight gave us 25ml which has given the roof and gutters a good wash and now we have a lovely drizzle

Thanks. My poor cattle dog who is use to being with me 24/7 couldn't move into our accommodation. I had to leave her with my son and his mates. Even though she had another dog she loves to play with to keep her company she was very unhappy to be separated from me. I did take her to the beach every day for a good run. Cattle dogs that are use to running around all day, herding chooks, watching pigs, drooling at roos just aren't happy in a backyard. grin

Interestingly enough bundybear, we are dog sitting tonight, neighbors dog, their house is unsafe after the massive piece of pine tree fell on it during todayís storms. House is in a bad way, branch hasnít finished falling and will likely cause more damage.

Not sure why but now the chance of showers goes to Monday now for Yeppoon, as well as "cloudy"

Are we expected to see something from the ex cyclone?

Day time temps for Yeppoon around 23/24 in the weekend.

Great to hear, bb.

I know he/she hasn't posted in a while but I hope Subtropical pulled through okay. He/she was from Baffle Creek iirc?

The neighbors seem to have everything under control, insurance is right into it, arborists were in today removing the branch, builder is in stabilizing and making the damaged area safe. No engineers have been through to assess yet though.

Ergon must be snowed under 28 hours without power, three minutes to fix a blown fuse when they arrived (I told them is was the fuse when I reported it).

Compared to everyone else in the district we got a wooden spoon with 37mm. Only a km away got 55mm. 90mm was quite common all the way up to 120mm.

Really hoping for more rain. A lot more. This will only last a week if there is no follow up.

A big change in the bureau with their forecasts. All of the models now have ex TC Owen approaching the coast and combining with an upper trough resulting in a very significant rain event. Where the bigger totals fall depends on exact movement of low. Something to watch.

Mysterious Brad. Glad the neighbours house is under control.

Mega, Subtropical would have been fine. On the other side of the river to us and the fire never jumped.

Now just awaiting the assessor to get here so we can move on with things.

Disappointingly models now seem to be indicating ex tropical cyclone Owen will not give us any rain.

Looks looks the extreme dry is set to continue.

Yea even longer term models are showing a return to the south east getting rain again, with nothing substantial along the central and northern coast.

Hmmm. It is summer time. Summer time means potential flooding events.

Yep. I am stressed. Lol. Flooding is a yearly event. Sometimes more, sometimes less. Pantry and freezers are full.

Flooding brings life though. Everyone around here a couple of weeks ago spent a week or more fighting fires and they were all battling drought before and after. They said they would welcome a flood.

I worry more if we don't get our yearly flood here. grin It also provides me with a great belly laugh of all the people carrying on as if life is ending. They are never prepared despite it flooding yearly at least one most years.

Only issue this year is the bloody fire that has left the ground totally bare. All that ash, charcoal washing into the creek system might cause a mass die off of the fish and stuff. No crab for Christmas.

The closer the systems get the less rainfall is predicted. Right on que.

Some nice rain this morning from the north in Glady, hopefully more to come although models particularly EC is painting a grim picture for us with ex tc/low stalling at Mackay and then fizzling out. Let down once again.

Doesn't surprise me with the population up there. Crabs don't get a chance. Still shed loads of good fish being caught in the town reaches of the Fitzroy though.

GFS backed off even further for rain, now down to under 10mm.

Makes the morning bulletin looks silly with their hysterical headlines from a few days ago.

The latest Morning Bulletin headline

"Cyclone Owen: How to prepare in Central Queensland "

My suggestion would be leave the car outside and it might get a light dusting of rain to wash 50% of any dust off it.

I am starting to wonder, since the BOM shut down all the regional offices, their forecasts have got less and less reliable.

I trust my mates up there. We are in a fishing club down here together and they have zero reason to lie. The photos I get sent regularly tell me enough about the Fitzroy. I'm happy to admit they are better fisherman than me but they also spend more time doing it. I highly doubt the catchment is your issue. All of the no net catchments have shown measurable improvement. If only they're do the same down here .

You're just exceptionally lucky RC laugh

They can only forecast based on the information in front of them. They can't make it rain. Especially where you live.

I agree, it's [censored] . Sadly that's government for you. Gladstone radar should have gone Doppler long ago. But expectation is also an issue. I think Ken Kato summed it up well in the SEQ thread with that Plucka character.

Maybe he did or maybe he didn't.

Livingstone shire council just cancelled their carols on the beach citing severe storm risk. Now looking at the radar there are no storms within cooee (bay). You would very well imagine they would be briefed on the weather by BOM. Based in Brisbane.

Cyclone tech bulletin indicates tropical storm ex owen is moving your way
tracking link
http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDQ65002.shtml
There is a warning out on the tech bulletin but nothing showing on the automated forecasts
ACCESS is suggesting from townsville to hervey bay will cop the southern flank of this low with at least heavy rain sunday / Monday
What is your forecast RC? Any warnings out that you have seen other than cyclone tech bulletin

88.5mm from that storm/rain event.

My forecast is it will rain when it feels like it and be dry all the other times. The latest GFS forecast has gone from steadfastly for a couple of days saying CQ will be lucky to get 25mm to widespread 50-75mm. I am aware cyclones are notoriously hard to predict as they meander where they damn well want, but what the hell are we supposed to believe.

The same again tomorrow except very widespread 75-100mm and I will be at peace with the world. It is that dry, our ground soaked up this 80mm and is asking for more.

66mm for me, SWW issued last night at midnight for coastal areas all the way down to Wide Bay Area. Today will be our best chance of rain that is if ex Owen doesnít come any further south than forecast. But going off what he has done so far I would say anythingís possible. Latest EC and GFS runs have him wandering around off the NQ coast for days as a low/weak tc.

Not sure what we have had. We have had periods of constant drizzle, no big downpours but it is what we need at the moment. A downpour would only cause erosion with our total lack of grass cover now.

Well it looks pretty dismal, seems to be breaking up rather quickly as it pushes south. Donít know where this supposed 100-200mm falls were meant to come from today. Unless this trough is coming through later on. Still Iíve had 90mm since this started so Iím not complaining but being a weather nut you always want more. Lol

Just because you havenít had the predicted 100mm doesnít mean others arenít getting it. Around your area people have had 140mm in 24 hours. And yes, it is breaking up because it degenerated from a cyclone. It now depends whatís happens as it enters warmer waters again, as well as direction. Even if it remains as it does, there will continue to be heavy falls as we have even seen in this thread.

It has not penetrated inland much. Today the heavy stuff was mostly very coastal with a little bit getting to the first set of ranges. Inland was quite sporadic. Certainly nothing widespread.

We have only had 10mm so far today since 9am.

Forecast makes no sense. BOM says Storms developing, possibly severe.

The severe weather warning doesn't mention Yeppoon nor is the coast in yellow on the map.

So on one end they are saying storms possible severe but the warning doesn't include Yeppoon.

http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDQ21033.shtml

They might be right if we just get a sprinkle and it fizzles out .

Obviously the severe storms aren't threatening your area (yet) if this storm continues to the coast. Very heavy rain and flash flooding here. 44mm over at the airport so far

Glad you got something Vinnie. Ground soaked yet again grass will continue growing like mad when the sun comes back out.

Glad to see you guys in Rocky got a decent drop tonight. Only 8 mm down here but it cooled things down a bit which is good. Still a chance for morning storms apparently as the southerly change moves up the coast.

Really loving this weather, it's warm, but not unpleasantly humid.
