Hi all

Longtime lurker and avid reader! Just wanted to put my 2 cents in regarding viewing these forums on mobile devices.

Considering the exponential growth in Smartphones and data consumption, more and more people are viewing Weatherzone pages on mobile devices.

As a regular reader of the Weatherzone Forums on a mobile device, I find viewing threads very difficult, as the text becomes very small and hard to read on a mobile screen. This is especially evident if there are photos posted within a thread. This very much degrades the overall experience.

I noticed at the bottom info section Weatherzone forums utilise UBB Threads Forum software version 7.5.7. Upon browsing their website (www.ubbcentral.com) I see their latest stable version 7.6.0 released 17/2/17 is specifically credited with being mobile friendly.

I am of the belief that Weatherzone forums are a valuable source of information to many Australians, and as result of this should be upgraded sooner rather than later in order to give a greater mobile viewing experience?

Cheers Bisco

Totally agree but they abandoned this forum years ago with any upgrades.

Pretty much. This forum is using a software version that is 10 years old come February next year lol.

There's lots of neat features on more modern software versions too which would be cool to have but it doesn't look like it's ever going to happen.

I agree. And with greater viewing experience comes broader engagement and a more likely sustainable future for the forum. Seems inevitable a forum software upgrade is necessary

Thanks for your comments!

I looked further into the ubbthreads website and noticed that itís $59 to upgrade an existing licence for a years worth of updates.

http://www.ubbcentral.com/purchase.php

Perhaps Weatherzone admin can look into this as it is quite small investment for many new modern features and eventual future growth of the forum?

Cheers Bisco

It was so slow on my desktop PC yesterday, I thought the forum had been abandoned by WZ. Crawling slowly again today.

There is a forum board software called Disourse which I have found very flexible, especially of attaching/linking photos and url's without the need to use other hosting sites for photos and such.

Works extremely well with mobile devices, and can be used in between devices (which I found by chance), where you may start a reply say from your phone, but then you log onto a computer where what you have started typing on the device will also be on your laptop.

I found it much easier, especially in inserting pictures from screenshots etc.

I get the feeling that WxZone is about to cast the forums adrift when the new website launches

Seems to be back to normal now. Anyone notice how many guests were in the forum when it was slow compared to now? Around 250 now. Highest I saw was 1350.
