So an area that rarely if ever sees even an F0, gets hit by the second highest on the scale, meaning winds between 320-420km/h, which would make for the highest wind speeds ever recorded in Australia??? Were you there? A little bit of commonsense please.

So put that in your wand and smoke it!! grin laugh

Just google the Bulahdelah Tornado.

it’s been recorded by the BoM after damage assessments etc

Tornadoes are more common than many realise a few a reported each year throughout Australia. So statistically on a day with very good shear something with and EF4 or F4 can pop up, albeit here they are far less common.
Anyways here is a wiki report on the tornado Bulahdelah tornado

Read the Wiki entry, it hardly reads as a conclusive report “a caravan was destroyed” and some blokes tractor was overturned.

Whatever, maybe it did happen, the infrequency of such events makes me skeptical though.

By the way, ‘wand’ means wall - the north wall of the Eiger is known as the Eigerwand.

Edit Reason: Specifically personal insult removed. We'll have our disagreements but to make it specifically personal is too far

Tornado's aside, but don't we hold the record for worlds strongest wind gust during cyclone Olivia in 1996? 400km/h+ from memory.

Fujita scale readings are always determined by the level of destruction that has occurred and from that point they estimate the wind speeds that prevailed in that instance. So from that level of destruction it was estimated at an F4.

Warm, partly cloudy with sunny breaks and cicadas so far today.

Drove up to Newcastle yesterday. There had been light rain overnight but it had stopped by the time I left mid morning. It was mostly overcast and fairly cool driving up, with drizzle and light rain on the M1/F3. The car thermometer was showing 20-21. It cleared and warmed as I arrived into a soupy early afternoon. We went on a trip to the Port Stephens area where it looked as though something might develop, with some promising dark clouds, but it came to nothing.

---

Re the Bulladelah tornado, it was assessed by the BOM so I think that we can believe the estimate of its intensity. It cut a long, wide and obvious swathe through a state forest (destroyed or damaged an estimated one million trees) but fortunately barely touched populated areas.

Rain so far has been disappointing here. About 15mm altogether. Not enough considering the heat forecast next week. Some places further west have had good falls to 9am, like Mandurama 49mm, Tuena 30mm, Crookwell 29mm; but the rain is patchy. For example Trunkey Creek (sits between Mandurama and Tuena) only got 7mm.

I'm not getting my hopes too high, but let's hope for wider spread storm activity this afternoon.

I remember back in the early 1980's in South St Marys a storm went through and cut a swathe about 1klm long and about half a klm wide..Literally tearing most or part of the roofs off along that line. South St Marys shopping centre roof insulation was hanging off all the power lines downwind from the storm.. As well as damage to South StMarys public school. I think it was 1983. A friend has some pictures somewhere..Even today you can see the new or part new roofs from that storm.

There are sunny breaks out to my NE, probably near the Parramatta area, it sure feels like storm weather atm, if it happens I'm guessing it will be much later today.

Yes Kino Agree on both counts.

I've been banned in the past for far less trolling than this.

Yeh today feels like a storm day even probably will reach a max of 28 as well helping add to the advection that will occur.

I've been getting sunny breaks all day so far. The are breaks in the cloud over Sydney's North. That's got to be good for storm development.

EDIT: A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for a the North-South middle third of the State's (Slopes & Tablelands West of the Divide - wind and hail)

A Severe Weather Warning had been issued fir the South Coast and adjacent areas (heavy rainfall)

The Eigerwangholder is absolutely and ONLY a troll. Total non-contributer and should be banned. "Trash" is too good I would say Kino. A "Repugnant regurgitation" of a human would barely be more suitable.

Funny you say that you can still see the damage path after all these years. Having gone to School in Bulahdelah, I remember going bush walking through the effected area in the mid to late eighties and the damage was somewhat evident some 15-16 years later.

Back to the future, some sunny breaks here today allowed the temp to get to the high 20s, starting to cloud over now.
