Thank you Seabreeze.

GFS is still keen for a post-Christmas heatwave, starting in about a week and extending to New Year's Day. That can change, of course, but I note that Penrith's forecast maximum for the 28th is 41°. For the 25th-28th, its forecast maxima are 33, 35, 37, 41.

It looks like no more storms and no significant rain for the time being - whatever spots we get out of this marine layer in the next day or so looks about it until the New Year.

EDIT: then I saw Perfect Storm's post, checked the radar and there are some orange cells marching towards the cost above the gunk. Ain't weather great. A quick 2.6 mm picked up by Sydney OH.

On my home I heard the news guy on the radio say "and we'll be seeing a typical hot and dry Christmas". A hot and dry Christmas is anything but typical, I don't even think there has been one since I can remember. This is the best Christmas to New Year forecast I've ever seen, bring it on!!

Meanwhile today is more like a normal Christmas day in eastern NSW.

True, often the days right before Christmas are really hot, then Christmas always seems to be rainy and cool. For example last year it was 41°C in most of Western Sydney on the 24th but then the 25th was cold. And in 2012 it was similar with high 30's on the 24th and cold on the 25th.

Thanks WR.

The period between Christmas and new year looks quite hot especially for Western Sydney as Steve mentioned before. I haven't seen the forecast with so much "sunny" weather for a while, since at least winter.

Lucky we have had some good rain leading into it.

And the cursed heat? Bring it on. Want to get it over with by march hopefully.

Heard the wind at about 5:00AM. We seem to have had a Southerly change, from warmer Southerlies to cooler ones. Decided it was nothing to worry about and went back to sleep. It's fairly cool this morning, below 20 at Sydney OH for the first time in over a week. There's seems to have been a bit of rain overnight.

The Sun's trying to come out, having not made an appearance at all yesterday that I noticed. In fact, December's been quite a cloudy month so far. Assuming zero or close to zero hours yesterday, it's averaging only 6.4 hours per day, about 1.5 below average. Storms, jet stream cloud and marine layer have kept the Sun at bay.

It has been warm and muggy all week. Even with cloud and southerly winds it was sweaty going around town.

However some of the minimums forecasted over the next few days hinted at some more southern maritime air moving in. I also heard the wind, and heavy showers, this morning and figured it would be this wretched filthy air welcoming in the first day of my holiday.

I guess the lawn mower will have to wait for another day.

Nothing better than firing up the old mower on a stinking hot day!!

Yeah that southerly came through here just after 6am, it brought just the 1mm with it although looking at the radar might get another shower or two.

Nice reprieve from the heat at the moment, was brutal up until Thursday with the heat and humidity.
Only going for 23C today, after a very pleasant 25C yesterday, and some light passing showers.
Heat is back from Xmas Day onwards.

Thanks to Seabreeze for moving the posts. I think at the end of this year we should start a new day to day thread. This original thread is getting a bit long now. The NE NSW & SE QLD section of the forum has three day to day threads.

No worries. smile

You actually read my mind, haha. I set the wheels in motion behind-the-scenes two days ago to start having a yearly thread for NSW Day-to-day weather given how long it has become. The new yearly threads would be set out just like the SEQLD/NENSW section has it: http://forum.weatherzone.com.au/ubbthreads.php/forums/22/1/SE_QLD_NE_NSW
I would also make a yearly and seasonal table of contents for this thread to help locate previous day-to-day weather happenings or for going on a trip down memory lane.
