Can't believe how quickly all these little cells are developing, and how many there are.
Then, we also have that huge line of storms that extend from the south coast of NSW to the south west of QLD, that are moving north east.

This storm season definitely makes up for the last few which were crappy. I hope the hunter gets a good soaking from these storms.

I wonder if the rain gauge at Sydney OH is malfunctioning? It has only registered 0.2 mm in spite of the fact that a few cells seem to have passed over it, some yellow and orange. It can get 0.2 mm out of a clear sky at Noon when it's 30 degrees and 30% humidity, so it's odd that it hasn't registered more this afternoon.

Those cells still keep coming. The Sydney and Wollongong radars look very busy. Hopefully the Hunter gets its turn later.

Cell with 2 black cores on radar west of Wisemans Ferry looks interesting

Edit: West not east
+ getting almost severe again outside ... bit it will pass for just torrential rain and squally winds and thunder

Can't see any planes taking off or landing at Syd Airport at the moment.

That sounds severe enough for a more detailed STW of some kind.

Edit: Plane from Honolulu coming in from the North to land.
Nothing taking off still.

BOM Sydney Forecast still saying
Quote:
Sydney area
Cloudy. High (80%) chance of showers. The chance of a thunderstorm, more likely in the west. Winds southerly 25 to 40 km/h decreasing to 15 to 25 km/h in the evening.

Anyone here from the BOM care to explain the inaccuracy of this?

Yep. That's very lazy forecasting to be honest.

General STW re-issued at 6:27pm covering whole of Sydney Metro for damaging winds and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding over the next several hours.

BOM Sydney forecast has belatedly been updated to better reflect what is happening and match the STW.
