Some pretty big temps in the NW of the country today, and the models look like dragging some of it down after Boxing Day.
Marble Bar got to 48C today and 49C tomorrow, maybe even a chance of breaking the state Dec record of 49.4C at Roebourne over there tomorrow.
The hottest spots look like the Riverina, places like Hay and Ivanhoe, even Griffith going for 6 days in row over 40C.
I don't think the NSW state record at Bourke from 1888 is under any threat though.

There is some heat above us. Mt Boyce, on 23 degrees, equivalent to 30 at sea level, is warmer than nearby areas in Sydney.

I think that OH will again struggle to make its forecast maximum, with the NE'er up and running with no resistance. Even so, it will be hot inland.

Christmas & Boxing Day maxima - it would be the hottest Christmas-Boxing Day holiday in a while away from the coast.

Sydney OH: 27, 27. I think today will also struggle to get past 27.
Airport: 30, 32
Olympic Pk: 32, 32
Penrith: 36, 36

I saw a bit of convective development on the Western horizon yesterday, but other than that it seems to have been completely cloudless.

There is definitely some huge uncertainty here about the maximum temperatures given that I often lie on the seabreeze boundary. That's the difference with this heatwave there is no real driving westerlies that bring very high temperatures all the way to the coast. It's just a lot of hot air that has slowly been dragged slowly along.

If the forecast temps come off it’s hardly a heatwave...and you’re dead right re no westerlies - need those dreaded nw’erlies raging across shredding everything.

At least the sea breeze hasn't been a gale like it can do on warmish days along the coast, at least for here anyway.

10 am here and not a breath of wind.

Meanwhile on the other side of the bay it's pretty breezy Eddy. Yesterday arvo was very windy with white caps everywhere.

Catch the ferry across and come say hello?

Yeah no doubt there was a sea breeze about yesterday, my highest gust was 28kmph, but it wasn't a sea gale like we usually get.

But it certainly can rip across the bay.

Looks like some convection happening in the CT's which is a lot more than the forecast of "Hot and mostly sunny".

Still waiting for the ‘heat wave’ here we haven’t even made average yet 😂😂😂 good ol’ seabreeze ripping through. Damn humid though.

A bit of convection going up to the West, but no sign of anything on the Radar.

Sea breeze is reasonably strong at the beach and bay, but just a few Ks inland from the beach the breeze is just that a breeze.
31c here according to my station.

There's a bit of streaky high cloud to the West, plus a bit of convective cloud.

It feels hot and humid here without much wind. The car thermometer was showing up to 36 in The Macquarie Park area and 33 near home. I think it's over-reading though. Might have to get a new car.

Seriously though, the thermometer app on this iPad shows 32.5 for Ryde and 31.5 for Chatswood. Oddly enough, it also shows 31.1 for "Sydney". Don't know where it's measured.

I think that's an actual storm near Katoomba and Warragamba, one with a black core.

All the other stuff showing on the Sydney radar is fake rain.

Not sure I'll get round to going over there Eddy, maybe tomorrow but I also leave here tomorrow. Would like to but I'm looking after the kids.

People are saying hot and sunny but here it feels almost coolish in the shade with the strong sea breeze.

Yep, nice little storm up the mountains Steve.
It looks very dark towards the west from here.

WR, I did the ferry trip over last year and caught up with Eddy. A very pleasant couple of beers and much discussion had. Well worth the trip.
