This no NE’r thing is weird. I’m only 5km from beach. Last 2 days turned aircon on after 5. Bit earlier today. If trend continues. Be a very hot weekend.

Seriously though, the thermometer app on this iPad shows 32.5 for Ryde and 31.5 for Chatswood. Oddly enough, it also shows 31.1 for "Sydney". Don't know where it's measured.

Some cars have the thermometer next to the radiator. Mine always overeads by 2 to 3c while moving, and up to 10c while stationery for an extended period. The heat just washes into the thermometer, but strangely enough there’s room to move it further away from the radiator but I’m too lazy haha.

What’s also weird is it’s been cold in the wee hours. Go to bed with no sheets wake up with them on. I am only apparently 27m above sea level. So get some big fluctuations.

Been below average the last few nights here - but seeing as the humidity is higher it doesn’t feel cold.

That storm near Katoomba seems to be drifting slowly Northwards, so we won't see anything here.

There were some quite high temperatures around Sydney today away from the coast:

Penrith : 39.6
Bankstown: 36.7
Olympic Pk: 33.8
Sydney AP : 32.4

I don't think anywhere near Sydney has been to 40 so far this season, but that will probably change tomorrow. Meanwhile, Sydney OH has crashed through the 27 barrier, although Bellambi couldn't make 25.

Re car thermometers, mine used to be fairly accurate. It tended to be consistent with nearby weather stations when I had a chance to check. It would dip when I crossed the Harbour Bridge on a hot day, passing OH. I might have a look in the car's handbook and see if I can find it under the bonnet.

Looking a bit dark to the W/NW even from the coast, those around Katoomba may be experiencing heavy rain and even some small hail. If we got some storms today, wonder what tomorrow will bring with GFS predicting stronger instability.

What's up with the Terrey Hills radar the past few days? Showing heavy rain offshore from Sydney, despite it being sunny. confused

It, along with Appin, picks up the seabreeze, as the air is denser due to maritime moisture.

It got down to around 18 C earlier last night (which is well above average in itself) but I woke up this morning to a windy 25.8 C at 6.45 am. Not overly common here in the Monaro.

Moruya forecast top of 33. Reached 37.9C at 10:54am. Poor BoM coastal regions must be so hard to forecast on days like this with sea breeze vs NW's.

Definitely true - sometimes the sea breeze will kick in only shortly after forecast but by then the temperature will have spiked up well over the forecast temp. It's happened at Obs Hill many times where the prediction will be for example 30°C but it shortly spikes to 37°C then the sea breeze takes over.

Defiantly something wrong with that new defence AWS in Holsworthy as it reckons it's been as high as 40.9c which is higher than all others in the metro. It must be very poorly sited.

Forecast for the rest of Friday
Dry, apart from the slight chance of an afternoon shower or thunderstorm about the southern coast or central ranges. Mostly sunny. Hot to very hot over the inland. Daytime temperatures above average, most notably over southern, western and central districts. Northeast to northwesterly winds, fresh across the south, and along much of the coast in the afternoon.

We are on the south coast....Batemans bay currently and the temp is consistently showing 43 in the car. Its is crazy hot for this area and has been blowing offshore. None of the stations showing that sort of heat except moruya ap. Just a couple minutes down the road at catalina the temp dropped 10 degrees with a shallow seabreeze. Much more manageable. Even if the car over reads by 2 degrees the observations dont reflect the experience on the ground thats for sure. And the car is usually very close to correct temp i have found....

Kino got in just before me.

I saw some towers away to the South when I was out and about. Checked the radar when I got home and sure enough, there were small storm cells near Bargo and Robertson. Those cells don't seem to be moving.

It's clear, sunny, very warm and humid here, probably around 33 (car thermometer showed 35-36). Penrith hit 40.5 alittle while ago. I think that these are the first 40+ readings in Sydney this season.

Holsworthy Defence has dropped a few degrees since the NE'er broke through. The 40.9 max is a couple of degrees warmer than the maxima at nearby Campbelltown and Camden so far.

They’re not, they’re in the Illawarra forecast area but that does include slight chance of storm.

Day 2/3 of the “heatwave” and no heat here so far, and Albion Park hasn’t even cracked 30 as yet. The ne’er blows relentlessly and is now in a self-reinforcing pattern - creating upwelling cooling the inshore waters increasing the thermal gradient between the hills and the coast, leading to a stronger, earlier seabreeze. Pattern looks to shift early next week with a short wave trough pushing through and chances of storms and showers.
