Okay I’ll start lol. Happy new year all, hope we have all had a good start to the year so far and a safe one. Hoping this year is our year in terms of rainfall, definitely can’t be worse than 2018. My total was 472mm which is just over half of Gladstone’s yearly mean average of 897mm. How did everyone else fair around CQ?

I cannot remember such a prolonged period of E or SE winds.Very pleasant weather. Makes summer feel mild .

Yes, no rain as well thanks to the south easterlies.

Just no end in sight.. seems the heat this summer is not in Central Qld. We've only had 6 days in the 30's this summer. (Not complaining about that). only 3 of those 6 were over 30.

I have found a way to guarantee rain at home. Bring in my fencing contractor.

We have been so grateful to 'Team Rubicon' a group of returned vets who come into disaster areas and lend a hand. They took a day to pull down our old boundary fences so we could have our contractor get on with the job of the new fence. Without them this would not be happening for months since I am out of work due to an operation.

Not a lot of rain but enough to keep the piggies very happy.

Moisture from ex-TC Penny is getting dragged into the cap coast by them south easterlys! Might get a good few mm of rain from it.

And like 2 days ago they said we were going to get hardly a thing lol.

Ring the BoM and ask them Vinnie instead of constantly complaining about the forecasts . It's very difficult to pin point how much rain might come from a decaying Low in any given area. There are plenty out west that would love the 20 mm you got over night.

Be nice to get another 100mm or so, but I seriously doubt that will happen.

14.5mm here in the gauge.

Definitely wont happen. Maybe another 5-10mm if we lucky.
Almost about time the SWW was cancelled. Appears to be nothing left of this system.

Very little happening down here. A few light showers here and there but the cloud cover is keeping the temp down.

Nice while it lasted, grass is a bit green, not enough to get any crabs running but there's always next year. Bring on 2020.

Unfortunately the season has shaped up similar to the past four.

An entrenched high off New Zealand means the stagnant inland trough just sits there month after month. The last few years have relied on rare events (cyclones mostly) to bring heavy rains.

27mm for me from this event.

I am serious.

Last year (2018) figures for ROC AP.

Jan - 84mm
Feb - 118mm
Mar - 33.4mm
Apr - 20mm

2018 was a very poor wet season with the season ending in late FEB18. Now due to the extreme dry and El Nino like conditions of the last several months and the fact we wont see the MJO back in these parts till late FEB19 or even MAR19 I would say 2019 is going to be an even worse wet than 2018. So yes I would think that the season is now over for us. Maybe 50mm in FEB and less then 10mm in Mar & Apr. See how it goes.

At the moment Vinnie, we could have had a continuous thread named that for the past four years and it would be an accurate state of the weather.

Only reached 30 deg once so far this month. Technically it was 29 point something but yeah with the wind being E or SE the temps won't go higher than average.

Rocky sitting at 63.8mm as we approach the end of Jan.
That's less than half the Jan average of 131.1mm and even far less than we go in Jan 2018 (83.8mm), which was one of the driest years ever.
It's not looking good. 2019 is shaping to be the driest year in recorded history if it continues like this.

Bundy doesn’t do consistency. It’s all dry or real wet... let’s wait a few weeks and see if it flips from one to the other. Fingers crossed.

When was the last time the monsoon trough dipped as far south as Yeppoon?

Would be nice if the rains in Cairns moved south.

On the plus side I guess this fine weather is good for tourism.

It is a very rare event for the monsoon to ever get this far south.

It usually needs a cyclone to suck it down. It is looking like the failed wet season is set to continue.

Been years since GFS has shown falls that big around the Mt Isa/Cloncurry region. Gold for the farmers up that way with up to 150mm forecast on the 18z run and general agreement between models of 50-100mm for a wide area.

6 days out? I for one show interest in a 6 day forecast. Not as if it’s day 15 on a GFS run or something.

I only show interest when the stuff falls out of the sky and hits the ground, because I find most forecasts, especially out past 3 days are often wildly inaccurate, models out to 15days are Science Fiction.

Does not seem many models are interested in any major rain event for this region for the forseeable future.

Most seem to be predicting, 1 to 3mm.

Yeah a little disappointing RC, i still think we are in the dry season here. lol
But we might pic up a few showers during the upcoming winter, or even a decent storm when Oct & November rolls around again. So fingers crossed.

Some incredible rains now forecast for W QLD over the next week by BoM WATL, 300-400mm in the Mt. Isa/Cloncurry area that I mentioned before (A station to the east recorded 129mm to 9am). GFS looks good for as far south as Boulia, should give them a much needed boost. I'm not good with the geography out there, but I'm guessing that area flows into Lake eyre whilst further SE is needed for the murray darling. Either way there will be a big river flow somewhere.

It is getting proper dry down here. The dog went to go for a swim in the house dam the other day. She ran through the whole thing so that means maybe a foot of water in it at the deepest. The top dam has a bit more but god it stinks.

Unfortunately the plants I had hoped might come back from the fires have no chance. So sad to have lost plants that had such special meanings to me. Whilst I can replace the actual plants they just won't be the same.

Latest GFS is now in agreement with access g of a gulf born low/tc moving east and then sliding down the coast although it has it a few days behind access. Still uncertainty exists but the probability is increasing. If this does eventuate then it will be hats off to Access G.

Way too early to get excited about model forecasts that far away. If they are still showing it in 4-5 days time I'll start taking notice.

GFS has no rain for Rocky for the next week and sadly temps going up to 36 deg by next weekend.

Again this is a fair way out but sounds like it could be more accurate.
