Use it like you did with the previous one that ran for over 12 years. smile

By splitting the NSW Day-to-Day thread into years, it should make finding information about past weather easier and give more organisation to the general weather discussion that occurs in NSW outside of the event threads.

The following may help with finding information in the previous Day-to-Day thread that ran from July 2006 to December 2018.

30C forecast top today for Sydney Airport.
Was already 29.3 at 8:53am.
Dropped back to 28.4 now after the wind change to the NW went back to the NNE.

The glorious blue skies return! Hooray

New year new thread.

It's beautiful day today, although very humid, a return to the recent pattern. The sea breeze is up and running near the coast after flukey light winds earlier. Sydney OH has already been to 27.9 against a forecast 29, but I think that it will probably hover around 27-28 all day now, maybe briefly spiking to 29 or 30. I think that the Airport will probably get into the low 30s as it has been doing this past week. It will be hot again for the Western suburbs.

Happy new year everybody. A lot more humid today than yesterday probably from the rain yesterday arvo and overnight.

Similar here, maybe even 17, ridiculous days and days of strong NE’erlies. The great irony of the NSW Central Coast & south - warmer weather, freezing ocean. Cold weather, warmer ocean 💁🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

S’pose the fishing will be fantastic with all this upwelling?

Great storm, cloud and sky pictures. I do like a clear blue sky. It's a great backdrop for distant storm clouds, in 3 months' time for Autumn trees and for Jacarandas in 10 months.

----

Re sea temps, here are the MHL measurements about 10 km off Sydney's Northern beaches. It looks like the Battle of the Currents:

We seem to be getting regular deviations about a degree either side of the average (about 21.6). The frequency seems to be roughly daily. The tides perhaps?

The water temps seem to have recovered at least on the Shoalhaven Coast, probably from the lack of sea breeze the last few days. Not sure about Wollongong coast but probably pretty similar. Felt around 21°C to me and had a nice blue colour instead of a greenish tinge that seems to happen when the water is cold.

In fact it was almost the perfect beach day. Temps were mild (around 22-23°C) but the lack of breeze made it feel much warmer than it was.

Further to this morning's discussion, here's an article in this morning's SMH about the cold water at the beach this Summer: Why it's hot on the beach and cold in the surf

Apparently have been more sea fogs as well, including this morning at Bondi.

Been down in Jervis Bay for the yearly family holiday, and I gotta say the water's been spectacular. Wouldn't've called it unusually cold at all. Not sure what's going on up in Sydney.

The water at Mollymook is now quite warm after being freezing on the weekend. Long surfs are being had in just boardies with no problems even though air temps haven’t passed 25C. I was almost too warm in a wetsuit top (yet had to wear a full steamer on the weekend).

I think we’ve have more SE winds, rather than NE, which may have helped.

I have some photos and a crappy time lapse of that roll cloud riding the change earlier in the week. Will upload when I’m back tomorrow night.

I went to Huskisson today. Water temp was quite comfortable.
I cannot believe how strong the north easter has been here this afternoon.
It's after midnight now and it's still blowing a gale.
It made dinner on the back deck of the rental very uncomfortable, but happily cool.

Went to Malua Bay a few times for Summer hols as a kid.

The cyclone strength Nor'Easter was what I remember most about that place. Hated it. Could not do anything outside after about mid afternoon.
