Happy New Year SBT!!!

Absolutely nothing happening weatherwise here in downtown Moranbah. Thankfully I'm an avid armchair weather watcher and the whirly whirly up in the Gulf is enough to keep me going. grin

Hope 2019 is a good one for you and the folks in NQ.

happy new year all.
with 2018 being only 20mm below average, let hope 2019 starts with a bang and gives us a better shot of breaking average for once.

Hey everyone. Long time lurker here. I've had an account for a while but haven't posted in years.

Anyway, Penny is starting to look better on satellite imagery tonight. I am patiently waiting to see whether we will see any rain out of her. Fingers crossed.

because Penny has weakened quicker than expected highly unlikely she will track a wsw track towards our coast now. likely to remain direct w or wnw which will take her onto the NTC and given then another drowning, of course they are already water logged and soaked, meanwhile those area that need the rain like our stretch of coast and inland will most likely miss out now. and nothing else on the horizon after this either.

Day 6 and nothing to record yet.
Didn't come all that close to making average but grateful for what we did get. Ross Dam is at 64%, a bit of a flush through the creeks and rivers so that may make a better than average prawn season and the barra may have had a chance to get to the heads of the creeks to breed. So in summary, 2018 memorable for a couple of big unexpected falls but not much else.

I thought it filled up early last year, and you had a near average rainfall, yet the dam is not low, but lower then I would expect.

Yep, 2018 was an average year rainfall wise with the dam at a healthy level heading into the wettest time of year for Townsville.

Can't really complain...yet.

Severe Weather Warning
for DAMAGING WINDS and HEAVY RAINFALL
For people in parts of Herbert and Lower Burdekin and Central Coast and Whitsundays Forecast Districts.

Issued at 4:59 pm Sunday, 6 January 2019.
Heavy rain and damaging wind gusts to develop between Alva Beach and Sarina from Monday evening

Weather Situation: At 4pm AEST Sunday, ex-tropical cyclone Penny was located in the Coral Sea near latitude 17.0 degrees south, longitude 154.5 degrees east, about 740 kilometres east to northeast of Bowen.
Over the next few days, the system is forecast to move further west towards the tropical east coast of Queensland, most likely as a tropical low. There is still some risk that the system will redevelop into a category 1 tropical cyclone over the western Coral Sea. However, regardless of its status, heavy rainfall and damaging winds are likely to develop with its passage.

Areas of heavy rainfall, which may lead to flash flooding, are expected to develop over the southern flank of the system from Monday evening. Heavy rain should initially develop about coastal areas between Alva Beach and Sarina, and extend inland during Tuesday. Six hourly rainfall totals between 140mm and 180mm are possible, with isolated heavier falls in excess of 200mm possible.

Damaging winds, with peak gusts of around 90km/h may develop over the Whitsunday Islands from Monday evening or Tuesday morning.

Locations which may be affected include Mackay, Bowen, Ayr, Proserpine, Collinsville, Hamilton Island, Eungella, Alva Beach, Airlie Beach and Clare.

Yes and maybe lol. There is a gale warning for the Townsville coast tomorrow.

Townsville is a bit more sheltered from SEíly gales however, so the worst of it will be on exposed parts of the coast and nearby islands.

Looking a bit better for us Townsville wise, as long as the system passes to our North.

Lates GFS has it approaching the coast near Cape Cleveland and moving West over the city on Wednesday afternoon.
