Rain is supposed to still be falling tomorrow but easing off. Just what everyone needs for the first day of school. Not.
48 hour totals is 85mm
Nice drop but the dam needs a lot more than that.

havent bothered to empty my gauge this morning, up around the 70mm mark id say. rain has not been torrential, if this was 2008-2012 we would have got 200mm+ last night. just didnt get the NE feed we needed to make the moderate rainfall heavy. Still we never say no do we?

Yeah it's decent rain, but nothing crazy. All that stuff falling on the ocean would've been useful a few hundred ks to the west.

I remember older folks in Townsville saying that it would ALWAYS rain on the first day of school. Anecdotally of course, no idea if there is actually statistical truth to that. Even when I was at school, there would be a few times every wet season when school would be cancelled for the day because of flooding. That just never happens anymore.

The radar looks so promising today, but we're just not getting the kind of falls we should. Seems like areas to the north and south would just casually amass 100 or 200mm+ from this kinda weather, but we have to scrounge for 50mm if we're lucky.

Heavy thunder lighting and steady rain here at the moment.

Today feels like a bit of a let down after all the hype!

Well this event has been quite disappointing so far. Only received 88mm since its started. Definitely thought there was gonna be more in it. Oh well guess its better than nothing.

Just had a quick look at ec and gfs, both are still showing some good rain accumulations over the next few days in the area but I'm struggling to see it happening after the last few days.

Flood Watch for coastal catchments from Daintree to Mackay, parts of the western Cape York Peninsula and eastern Gulf of Carpentaria catchments.

Issued at 12:25 pm EST on Tuesday 29 January 2019

Flood Watch Number: 7

Moderate to major flooding is possible in the Flood Watch area later this week.

The monsoon trough is currently extending across north Queensland and is forecast to remain in the region over the next few days.

Some of the catchments in the Flood Watch area are saturated and have experienced flooding in the past week. This will result in a faster response in the rivers to any further rainfall.

Heavy rainfall is expected between Townsville and Mackay during Tuesday and Wednesday. From Thursday onwards, the monsoon trough is expected to start slowly moving northwards over the North Tropical Coast, western Cape York Peninsula and eastern Gulf catchments, resulting in multiple days of heavy rainfall.

Heavy rainfall may also lead to flash flooding.

Flood Warnings are current for the following catchments: Tully, Murray, lower Herbert, Haughton and Bohle rivers.

Catchments expected to be affected include:
Norman River

Gilbert River

Mitchell River

Staaten River

Daintree River

Mossman River

Barron River

Mulgrave and Russell Rivers

Johnstone River

Tully River

Murray River

Herbert River

Black River

Ross and Bohle Rivers

Haughton River

Burdekin River to Burdekin Falls Dam

Burdekin River downstream of Burdekin Falls Dam

Don and Proserpine Rivers

Pioneer River

See www.bom.gov.au/qld/warnings to view the current flood warnings for Queensland.

For more information on the Flood Watch Service: http://www.bom.gov.au/water/floods/floodWarningServices.shtml
Flood Safety Advice:

This Flood Watch means that people living or working along rivers and creeks should monitor the latest weather forecasts and warnings.

Remember: If it's flooded, forget it.

For flood emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.

For life threatening emergencies, call Triple Zero (000) immediately.

Current emergency information is available at www.qld.gov.au/alerts.

Hi Everyone,

I recall last year, someone had put together a link showing the heigh and percentage of the Ross Dam levels. Does anyone know if its still working and what the link might be?

I've got the BOM link but I'm sure a clever someone had something else.

Cheers
Josh

Dam has got some good inflow at the moment. It has risen about 4% since this morning. That number should rise throughout the next few days.

This was a graph from last year but it doesn’t seem to be functional at the moment.
