Hmm could be a suss reading - the Bluewater Altert has had 105mm since 9am, and the other two alerts close by (Toolakea & Uppr Bluewater) are within 10mm of that reading.

Having said that, the surrounding Wundergroud stations are showing some huge falls..

*edit* looks like the Wunderground sites are reporting from midnight not 9am, so those figures are probably accurate!! shocked

Weather Situation: Rain with embedded thunderstorms, which are producing localised intense rainfall, are occurring across Herbert and Lower Burdekin, more specifically a swath from Toolakea and Upper Black River. Heavy and intense rainfall may extend over Townsville later this afternoon.

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy, locally intense, rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Townsville, Palm Island, Ingham, Cardwell, Rollingstone and Lucinda.

Toolakea has recorded 147mm within the past 2 hours

Upper Black River has recorded 136mm within the past 2 hours

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:
* Never drive, walk or ride through flood waters. If it's flooded, forget it.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
* For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.

The next warning is due to be issued by 2:55 pm.

Moderate Flood Warning for the Ross and Bohle Rivers

Flood Warning Number: 5

Moderate flooding is possible in the Ross River at Aplin Weir. This could be close to the record flood level of 1.77 metres from the January 1998 flood.

Rainfall totals of 100-300 mm have been recorded in the Ross, Bohle, Black and Bluewater catchments in the past 24 hours. Showers and heavy rainfall is forecast to continue for the next few days.
Ross River:

Moderate flooding may occur along the Ross River.

The Ross River at Aplin Weir is currently at 0.66 metres and rising. The Ross River at Aplin Weir is likely to exceed the minor flood level (1.00 m) Thursday morning. The river level may reach the moderate flood level (1.70 m) early Saturday morning. This could be close to the record flood level of 1.77 metres from the January 1998 flood.
Bohle River:

Moderate flood levels are rising on the Bohle River at Hervey Range Road.

No observations are currently available for the Bohle River at Mt Bohle however river levels are expected to be above the moderate flood level (5.50 m). The river level is expected to remain above the moderate flood level (5.50 m) during Wednesday.
Black River and Bluewater Creek:

Major flood levels are now rising on the Bluewater Creek while minor flood levels are rapidly rising on the Black River.

Remember: If it's flooded, forget it. For flood emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500. For life threatening emergencies, call Triple Zero (000) immediately.

Severe thunderstorms are no longer occurring in the North Tropical Coast and Tablelands district and the warning for this district is CANCELLED.

Toolakea has recorded 133mm in under 2 hours

Upper Black River has recorded 158mm in under 2 hours.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:

Major Flood Warning for the Ross, Bohle and Black Rivers

Issued at 4:08 pm EST on Wednesday 30 January 2019

Flood Warning Number: 7

Major flooding is likely on the Bohle River at Mt Bohle late Wednesday afternoon or early evening. Moderate flooding is possible in the Ross River at Aplin Weir. This could be close to the record flood level of 1.77 metres from the January 1998 flood.

The heaviest rainfall totals of 90-290 mm have been recorded since 9am Wednesday in the Bluewater Creek and Black River coastal areas to the north of Townsville, with most of this rainfall occurring in a short 3 hour period. Elsewhere across the Townsville area, totals of 40-140 mm have been recorded since 9am Wednesday. This rain is in addition to totals of 100-330 mm recorded in the previous 24 hour period to 9am Wednesday.

Further areas of heavy rainfall are forecast over the next few days associated with the movement of the monsoon trough.
Ross River:

Moderate flooding may occur along the Ross River, but dependent on forecast rainfall. Ross River Dam has commenced spilling.

The Ross River at Aplin Weir is currently at 0.81 metres (below minor) and steady. The Ross River at Aplin Weir is likely to exceed the minor flood level (1.00 m) Thursday morning. The river level may reach the moderate flood level (1.70 m) early Saturday morning. This could be close to the record flood level of 1.77 metres from the January 1998 flood.
Bohle River:

Major flood levels are rising on the Bohle River at Hervey Range Road.

No observations are currently available for the Bohle River at Mt Bohle however river levels are expected to be above the moderate flood level (5.50 m). The Bohle River at Mt Bohle is likely to peak around the major flood level (7.00 m) late Wednesday afternoon or early evening. Higher levels are possible as rain continues to fall.
Black River and Bluewater Creek:

Major flood levels have peaked on Bluewater Creek and are currently easing. Major flood levels have also peaked on the Black River, and are currently easing with minor flooding.
