I would say it increases rainfall for us. It is tapped into an infinite supply of moisture at the moment and being a broader low instead of intensifying into a tighter TC there should be wider spread rainfall than if it was a TC.

EDIT: This is definitely playing out as GFS generally forecasted. I think it has done an awesome job with this low.

130mm overnight. Some great totals around the region in the last 24hrs. Tinaroo dam alert has received over 120mm

I agree Simmo, GFS has done fairly well with this event.

The radar sure is showing a lot of rain to come. smile

Yesterday mornings minimum was 23.3c and max was 23.8c. Temperature variance of 0.5c.

Snuck into Mossman early for a few things at woollies, glad we did as we are cut off now. Just got in and out before they closed the Foxton bridge.
We've had about 150mm since 9am yesterday.

Severe Weather Warning
for DAMAGING WINDS and HEAVY RAINFALL

For people in Peninsula, North Tropical Coast and Tablelands and parts of Gulf Country, Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders and Herbert and Lower Burdekin Forecast Districts.

Issued at 9:51 am Saturday, 26 January 2019.

Increasing risk of heavy rain and flooding across areas of north Queensland this weekend.



Weather Situation: The monsoon trough is currently situated across Cape York Peninsula, but is forecast to shift southwards over far north Queensland during today and into Sunday. A tropical low situated along the monsoon trough is expected to move southwards over the interior of north Queensland this weekend.

Heavy rainfall, which may lead to flash flooding, will continue across north Queensland during today and into Sunday. Six-hourly rainfall totals of 100mm to 150mm are likely with locally heavier falls possible with thunderstorms. During today and overnight, LOCALLY INTENSE RAINFALL AND FLOODING will become an increased risk about the tropical east coast and ranges, north of about Ingham, with six-hourly rainfall totals in excess of 250mm possible.

Locally damaging winds, with peak gusts in excess of 90km/h, are possible across parts of far north Queensland during today.

A Flood Watch is current for areas north of Townsville to Normanton including Cape York Peninsula.

Locations which may be affected include Coen, Musgrave, Hope Vale, Kowanyama, Laura, Wujal Wujal, Port Douglas, Cairns, Mareeba, Atherton, Tully, Chillagoe, Innisfail, Cardwell and Ingham.

Selected rainfall totals in the 24 hours to 9am Saturday:

228mm at Peets Bridge (near Gordonvale)

186mm at Aloomba (near Gordonvale)

169mm at Gordonvale

138mm at Hopevale Bore

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure loose outdoor items.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
* Never drive, walk or ride through flood waters. If it's flooded, forget it.
* Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
* For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.

The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 5:00 pm AEST Saturday.

P.S: Do I need to clarify that I had more than just my gum boots on? 😉

And a further 55mm since 10:30, making 115mm since 7am.... gone a little quiet out here for now.
