The 10 day ACCESS g showing another trough coming through our traps' on the 13th March . Currently looks a bit ordinary. But lets see what the wild life is on about shall we. As you said maybe there predicting a wet month. As l said l am not familiar with the wildlife responses at this latitude.
In west VIC we have so little rain so it is easy to decipher ant hills . Here the weather systems are far more complex.
I think it is noteworthy that we have a trough coming through on the 6th March and another quick fire on the 13th. That is only 7 days a part.
Lets see if that pattern continues this month?

Ha.. Just had my first look at windy.com. An impressive animated front page of surface windstreams. Very nice .
But l had to giggle 'madelf'..
I see why you are upset. EC has a local feature of surface anticlockwise winds centred over Brisbane on Wednesday.6am to 12.. chuckle . That feature disappears in the afternoon on EC

ACCESS doesn't have that local anti clockwise high feature at all.
Of course a small high pressure blob is not a trough and not good for convective precipitation l believe

Its a small feature maybe it will go away on later runs ?

Here is ACCESS take on surface winds and looking more favorable for rain here
I have hot-linked this map and it will move on.

Haha have you seen the number of storms Tasmania's been getting over the last few months? It puts us to shame. They even had golf ball size hail in some areas near Hobart about a month or two ago.
In saying that, regions like TAS and VIC typically have their thunderstorm peak in the height of summer) whereas the frequency in severe storms in our region in terms of things like large hail typically occurs in late spring/early summer.

Yeah incredible, oh well hope they enjoyed the unusual activity down there.Really hope we don't get a repeat performance next time round.
Maybe we might get a some pre winter excitement of some sort that bumps up our tally.Hope so, even just one vicious thunderstorm would be great.

Cheers Crikey, interesting setup indeed.
See what develops :-)
At least some of the troughs are popping their heads up again.

Summer rainfall here was 152mm, not our driest on record but certainly the least stormiest I've ever seen. Only one direct hit from a storm in December (which was nearly 70% of our summer rain total). One thundery shower in January and nothing in Feb. Pretty sad stuff and definitely a season to forget. Hopefully March is a lot better!

6.5mm here since Friday, most we have had in a while.

It has been good to see the old cumulus congestus about again giving some gifts.

Storm on Wednesday would be a good Bday present smile

In contrast, there's been 34 thunderstorm hits here since the start of spring (6 x Sep, 3 x Oct, 6 x Nov, 13 x Dec, 1 x Jan, 5 x Feb).
The thunderdays count since the start of spring is 37. A lull in January, but still a decent storm season so far around here.

It is apparent that my post a couple of days ago re Butcher Birds and Ants going nuts and a prediction of rain was correct.
In Maudsland ( Gold Coast Hinterland ) we have had 46mm in two days ,includes 28mm last night.
Really nice quite heavy showers so it's penetrating the ground nicely.
Just goes to show mother nature and her creatures can be right about rain. Maybe they peek over my shoulder at my PC when I'm on the Weatherzone Forum and get their info from there. Cheating little sods!!!
Either way this is very goods rain.

That is a nice drop Rod, we've managed the same but over 7 days, just consistent little shower bursts, especially at night.
Looks like that little possibility of 10 or more today has been down graded, oh well still happy with the sprinkles. Love to hear your analysis Crikey when you have time to look over it.
Thx, DD

More journal papers and articles appearing in press about increasing frequency of 'marine heatwaves' eg:

The following link which reports on SST and anomalies in Tasman makes for interesting (concerning) study:

Been watching this all day while at work..
4 am it appeared as a band of showers northwest? Of Sandy Cape, travelled down Fraser..crossed over Hervey Bay, Maryborough and Tairo...solid looking as well..
But looks to be fizzling now...not bad though and a half hours of staring at the radar has left me crosseyed..lol.

According to the forecasts, the rain is supposed to diminish considerably the further south and west we are of the Bundaberg to Sunshine coast area. I afraid Mad Elf, for any of us west of Ipswich the drought rages on. Just look at this morning's rain and temp forecasts for the week for Gatton.

Not looking good at all. Back to hot hot hot next monday 39 for Gatton.
The only way I'll get to experience rain will be next month at Kakadu, hoping...
Even there they been drier than usual.

I agree Steve O!

This dry weather is hear to bear.

As I walk around I see the footpath lining plants all dying. This is awful and makes me feel so sad. As a motherly figure I want to take a watering can and bring them all to life.

I feel grief.

Perhaps tomorrow will help a little in Brisbane. I hope so.

And then perhaps Tuesday the 12th around 3pm. I do hope so.

I am over this weather. Hot and dry is awful. I feel awful.

Anyone else feel this way??
