The upcoming event looks very coastal again, but on the bright side at least water usage will decrease as a result. EC looks a bit wetter in the latest run with the upper trough becoming cutoff over the inland, resulting in a more onshore stream. Either way the signs are positive and all it takes is one decent system for a turn around.

Angler's Cold-Chase, Day I

Registered a minimum reading of –9.3° C on the Kestrel 5500 earlier this morning at Providence Portal, a notable frost-hollow in the Eucumbene region (1,174 m AMSL); Perisher Valley registered a mere –6.6° C, by comparison.

Beautiful morning in town. Very crisp and clear today. Can see the pockets of high rise areas throughout the basin and even the make out individual mountains to the west from my L46 vantage point.

Shame it won't last though.

It's mornings and days like this that make Winter tolerable for me. Roll on July and August and those blue sky westerly wind days.

Crisp cold morning here, lovely, sadly this weekends “event” has had the usual downgrade on the models. Hopeful we still see some action.

Looks like it would be cold though with that typical morning breeze that Sydney gets. I've been to Sydney at this time of day a few times lately and the way that westerly land breeze funnels through the streets makes it feel freezing up there compared to down here where we mostly just have no wind in the morning. Every time I check there's a half decent land breeze (15-20km/h) up there at this time of day.

The 7am walk from Wynyard to Barangaroo in the Wynyard Walk tunnel is particularly nasty in this case.
If any one wants to know what it feels like to ascend Everest then they need go no further than Barangaroo when Obs Hill is 5 degrees with a moderate Westerly wind. Be sure to walk from Wynyard so you are facing into the wind.

That's quite the exagguration, matey. 5° C with wind, so long as you've got a moderate jacket on, is actually fairly pleasant—especially with sunshine.

Most of the walk is underground with the western end open to westerlies which blow straight up the tunnel. I can confirm Kizz's version of this.

An exaggeration? Comparing with Everest? Surely not!

Nice and chilly today—only managed a 2.7° C maximum (2.5° C at Cabramurra), with Cooma up to 6.9° C; well below the forecast.

It appears my minimum at home was –6.2° C, which was not quite the –9.3° C at Providence Portal.

Well ... just checked our forecast minimum - minus 6 overnight! Let's see what happens - bought two external thermometers this morning just by chance so timed it right. Minus 10.2 is the June record at our airport, minus 7.4 in town.

Predicted frost tonight for the first time this winter.
Will have to get the hose ready for early morning, and see if this comes about.
Certainly cold enough today, the 18C max I must have missed it.

I've chased it meself with the Kestrel 5500 the past morning, hence "cold-chase". There is no station to speak of in Providence Portal—couldn't you already figure that out?

As of now, at my property, it's already –2.1° C as of 5:53 PM! shocked eek

The ground's gonna crack tonight.
