Weird weather out here. It feels like it's March with a cool dry breeze.

Did our season start early? Wonder if the magnetic fields have anything to do with it. The magnetic north pole has apparently accelerated to 50km per year, from Canada towards Siberia. So much faster they're having to update GPS software before they planned to. This surely must be having an effect of some kind.

I am not going to complain about the lower humidity days we are having atm. I am sure it won't last. The speed of the magnetic NP is amazing isn't it. I am not sure exactly what effect it would have on weather though. You would have to imagine it would do something.

Only a few months ago, I was reading that the Nth and Sth poles may be going to flip one day, though it could be a few hundred years from now.

Quote:
Our planet’s history includes at least several hundred global magnetic reversals, where north and south magnetic poles swap places.
There can also be temporary and incomplete reversals, known as events and excursions, in which the magnetic poles move away from the geographic poles – perhaps even crossing the equator – before returning back to their original locations.

The last full reversal, the Brunhes-Matuyama, occurred around 780,000 years ago. A temporary reversal, the Laschamp event, occurred around 41,000 years ago. It lasted less than 1,000 years with the actual change of polarity lasting around 250 years.

It's so nice that it's...just...wet.

The last few years most of our rain has been from storms, not just nice rainy weather.

45mm at 6pm

Seemed to have rain every hr all day long, getting around 23mm for the day - feeling particularly wet. A few hrs more of it left to go yet if radar is any indication

I'd like this to continue for a few days more yet.
We had 45mm today by 6pm and a bit more since.

Nicked out and transplanted some tomatoes just before dark, and the rain had barely penetrated an inch into the potting mix in the garden bed. Everything below that was dry.

We really need lots and lots of rain to replenish the water table. The first few years I was living here, there was always water seeping out of the creekbank at the swimming hole, you had to be careful you didn't slip in the mud, all year. Now there's nothing out of the top 3/4 of the bank, and almost nothing out of the bottom section.

Fingers crossed C@28 for the western areas. Nearly 40mm here today. More bands of heavy showers on the way.

There's some good rain in those heavy showers,- just a shame the are moving so quickly.
Still, that's usually the case with the Sth Easterlies.

Wow great MTD. You would be above most places in cairns too.

Fingers crossed for a wet end to January. Does not look like anything significant for the next week or so.
