Geez. It took a while to get from Dural to Glenorie. Must have got stuck in the traffic and stopped at McDonalds. smile

It's just 12.7 at Bombala with an app temp of 8 so there's some nice cool air behind this one.
Interestingly, the change hasn't reached Perisher Valley yet. It's still 19.5 deg's there.

Stopped off for a soft serve in drive thru! Could hear it coming through the bush a few minutes out which was pretty cool. We got the sprinklers out on front driveway and acted like little kids

The southerly feels positively chilly now, even though it is still 22C. Most importantly the air with this change is actually pretty dry too.

Yeah it's not a very humid southerly, but for once this southerly actually had the effect of dropping temps.

My stats for January in South West Parramatta are as follows:

Average minimum of 21.1C
Average maximum of 32.4C

Daily temps were recorded on my old style max-min thermometers (I have two).

There were 12 days >= 35C and 4 days >= 38C, with a top temp of 39.2C on the 5th of Jan.
There were only 7 mornings with a minimum below 20C, all near the beginning of the month.

The average 9am cloud cover was 5.1 oktas compared to an average of 4.3 oktas at Prospect reservior, which is the closest weather station to me.

20 mornings had a cloud cover >= 6 oktas which would explain the constant minimums above 20C. The average of 5.1 was offset by a few clear mornings with 0 oktas.

Lastly, there were very few days with winds from the N/NW/W quadrant, which would explain the humidity.

These types of Southerlies used to be much more common. The following day was often "cold" with a max temp failing to get much past, or even reaching, 70 deg F (21 C), often for several days.

If we get some showers/storms with this band of showers then it would be the icing on the cake.

Dramatic change in Perisher with 9.2 at 1930.
Cooler air through Canberra just after 7pm.

That is so true.

That was of epic proportions. I was driving through Parra at the time and it was like a wall of hazy wind coming at you then BANG leaves and dust and 41 degrees on the car temp gauge down to 32 in about 2 minutes.

Incredible stuff.
