GFS going for a stormy weekend for the last few runs now with falls 50-70mm on the tablelands. EC not so keen with falls of 10-15mm.

Not sure if the ground would have dried out enough for some heavy storms. The lake out the front will hopefully go today but if we get a good fall so soon it will be back. The mosquito population is exploding and most other insect populations will probably explode with this heat speeding up the larval stage.

The evening storms were good, temp went down and humidity up a notch, the rain was welcome. I suspect its more of the same for the next week or so, late storms each day?

Hi all,

I just returned from almost a fortnight in Bali. I had a cock up with flights, and ended up coming home via Adelaide and Melbourne. Gah! So, I got into Cairns yesterday at 4pm, took the doggo for a walk at yorkies and got absolutely soaked. Then got home to no power. After 2 days of travel and junk food, I are crackers and hummus for dinner haha.

Then, no fans, no aircon, no nothing, I tried to sleep...not a great night sleep to be honest. Power came back on at 2am.

So I missed all the news. I know TSV flooded but I read / saw no details (I made concerted effort to disconnect whilst away). Were records broken? It sounded pretty bad. I guess they got what we had for a few days, I wonder if they have the same good drainage that we have?

Anyways, day of laundry and nappy. The heat is feral. In contrast, Bali forecast storms every day but only had two lasting an hour each. Bali was cool and windy for most of it.

Think it might've been hotter today, but forgot to look.
5.15pm and currently 33.7 degrees and 35% humidity.
Mostly blue sky with a few puffs of white cloud.

It was much, much worse than that. Most places had 1500-2000mm in 9 days.

Nothing in the gauge today so looks like the rainy day streak is at an end. 19 consecutive days all up!!

Maxed at 36.5c yesterday but the DP dropped to 20-22 all day so not too sweaty. Should be hotter today.

Disconnected or not, half a minute of reasearch would show you what happened. Guess that comes with being ignorant. I had 1603mm in 10 days including 4x200mm plus daily falls and another falling 4mm short of 200.

Boy o boy! The bloody mould!

😂😂😂 got the whole week planned out...., cleaning mould😢

Did I mention my distaste for hot humid weather? It is a real battle between my hatred for this weather and my out and out hatred for the cost of electricity.

The battle continues......

Hey DU, don't take the comments personally, people have been through a lot in and around Townsville. The rainfall and resulting floods were devastating.
They were much wetter than Cairns has ever experienced in a 9 day period. The ross dam nearly reached 250%. Over 2,000 homes were flooded. A lot of records were broken.
If you have a look online you will find plenty of footage showing the extent of the flooding.

Out West has also been devastated by flooding with a terrible amount of livestock dead and farmers lives completely ruined. The photos and videos showing up on social media shows the horrific loss they are going through. It is an incredibly hard time for a lot of people.

Yes reports of up to half a million stock lost Simmo, that's just, woah..

Sounded like perfectly reasonable question DU, no need to "Pull ya head in"

Looks like hot and dry for a while now. Returned from 4 days off yesterday to 36mm.

Wow @ the attacks on Drivenunder.

What Ronfishes said ! He only asked a question and oddly enough he did so in a weather forum. What happened in Townsville is not his fault.

Cloudless sky this afternoon and evening, although there was the faintest pink vapour in the west just before light disappeared.

Back to watering the "food plot", and the 3 new trees I planted, battling the mossies in the shade of the afternoon.

Valid question DU. If you've been out of contact for a period of time it's understandable. I don't have TV, so most of what I know was only prompted by twitter videos and links, and the fact that we got rain almost every day here in Chillagoe, and I have more time on my hands than I know what to do with.

December gave us 146mm
January gave us a whopping 321mm
and the first 10 days of February made 156mm

Some wet seasons here didn't even make it to 300mm.

Dawwg and gazz the same person ??? Both of them should pull their heads in in any case, uncalled for and out of line. Yeah people are hurting, but it was an innocent question guys.

Meantime we have a mosquito plague of biblical proportions up this way, literally millions of the little suckers the likes we have never seen over the last 27 years here, had an interesting little localized thunderstorm build over the range behind us the other night over Spurgeon and Carbine that just sat and boomed away for hours while all was dead still down here in the valley... The star's were chrystal clear right over us but you could see the cloud towers lit up by the lightning a mere few kilometers away and hear the near instant crackle and boom of the lightning... was quite surreal.

Grass is growing at a phenomenal rate now with the sun out but so are the weeds, so been running the spray tank all over the place to try and keep on top of the nasty's... Still running on tank water for now and probably will be until well into the dry at this rate.

Still fairly early in the season yet for us all...Fingers crossed any where south of Cairns who got hit with the worst doesn't cop anything else for the rest of the wet season.

Maxed at 35.7c yesterday. DP was below 15c all day and dropped right down to 9.4c. Was great mowing weather.
Min temp was 19.9c this morning. It was chilly.
