Incredibly windy here in Moss Vale also, gusts at home in Bowral up to 80km/h.

I'm not sure if this is the right thread to ask this... I have been doing a bit of research of severe weather events/records in and around Sydney and noticed an official record low maximum of 0.3c at Camden Ap on the 29th August 1986 at an elevation of 74m. Can anyone explain if this is correct? Sounds quite extraordinary if it is!!

After dropping below 20 this morning, it's now clear, hot and sunny with NW winds and NOT HUMID. It's currently 33 degrees and 18% humidity, the former rising and the latter dropping. I find this weather quite comfortable. At Sydney OH, the 'apparent temperature' is 27.7, vs the actual temperature of 33.3. We get days like this in November and December, but not usually in February.

The only black spot, and it's a big one, is the fire danger, Severe over much of the state and Extreme in the Hunter. The winds in the Sydney area, at 10-15 knots, aren't too bad yet, but they'll pick up later. Hopefully we'll get through the single bad fire day with no major outbreaks before cooler weather arrives tonight.

EDIT: Re Snowmaker - low maximum at Camden. That doesn't now appear in the BOM records (see Camden low max). I'd say that's likely to be an error in your source.

Winds starting to pick up here finally. Currently 30.4 deg's.

I notice, under perfectly clear blue skies, a rogue 0.4 mm fell in the Richmond rain gauge at 11.27 am. Yeh, sure it did.

Ahh yes you're correct Steve. I just sourced it from the weatherzone climatology page. The other low max of 4.4 in september 1989 also seems to be wrong!

Gust of 72 now at Moss Vale.

This low humidity is doing me no good. My lips are dry, my throat is dry, pretty uncomfortable on the whole.

Canberra had a gust of 82 km/h about an hour ago; dusty with lots of leaves, small branches etc. scattered about.

There are plumes of dust lifting off the Hay plains on the satellite view.

It looks like a windstorm on Mars out there now. I was trying to tie shadecloth down but the conditions stopped me.

Still 33 deg's here with a gusty NW'erly.
I suspect it will stay very warm well into the night until the change pushes through early tomorrow morning.
Bathurst AP cam looking a little dusty on the horizon, but not too bad.

It's actually looking distinctly dusty to the West here as well. Might be an interesting sunset for anyone who can get a clear view to the Western horizon.

---

Looks like most of Sydney maxed at 36-37, a couple of centres 38. Hot, but nothing major.

It's a cooler pattern coming up, still fairly dry. Today might be the last 30 degree day on the coast for a while. There'll be a brief burst of warm but not particularly hot weather early next week, then the second week of GFS is showing an entrenched SE circulation, although the second week of GFS has been showing that for a while and it hasn't come off. One day it will be right. Even so, significant heat and significant rain seem to be off the menu for the time being.

The southerly change has reached Ulladulla in the last 10 minutes, usually how long does the southerly take to reach Sydney from that point?

Roughly 4 hours, so around 12.30am which is what the wind forecast charts predicted. I'm going for 11.40pm though.

Yes, normally it would take 3-4 hours from Ulladulla, depending on the strength of the change.
This change is a more south westerly change at first. It's not the same as what we have had over the past few weeks. Winds will turn more southerly to SE'erly tomorrow morning.

The change is through southern Wollongong, should be through Sydney at about 11:30pm.
