I still find it pretty amazing that in such a warm and dry country summertime snow at relatively low elevations is so common. Huge parts of the Northern Hemisphere see far, far colder and snowier winters than anywhere in Australia does, but they would have no hope of seeing any of the white stuff in high summer, even at 1000m asl. Yet it seems every summer there's at least 2 or 3 decent snowfalls in places like Miena.

Crazy to think that a few weeks back it was 32C there, and only 300km away it was 45C+. Australia's weather variety is pretty astounding sometimes.

How refreshing to get these cooler conditions. Who knows, maybe we'll end up with a month no more than 1deg above the long-term average? A frosty covering of snow on top of the mountain this morning.

A touch too refreshing, there is a happy median between the heat in mid Jan and the cold of mid Feb, had 15mm of rain yesterday morning and then it was clear, windy, dry and cold late yesterday. Dropped to 2.7 overnight, which oddly enough for Feb isn't our coldest night of the month... reached a max of just 15.4 yesterday.

Morning all
Sure has been a crazy start to the year with so many records being broken across the country.

The hot, dry conditions have certainly eased dramatically here.
In the 7 days from last Thursday till 9am this morning, have recorded rainfall of 33mm, 3.5mm, 35mm, 8.5mm, 15mm, 43mm, 19.5mm. For a total of 157mm. Enough to fill both watertanks thankfully.

Have been getting some very squally hail showers with the odd thunderstorm since yesterday. Still getting them now.
Maximum of just 10℃ yesterday and a very chilly minimum of 4℃
overnight.
And to top it off there is a light blanket of snow on Mount Owen down to about 900m.
Took this picture on daylight. Due to the light at the time, black and white was the the best option for a clear image.

Hi all,
Have been at Great Lake sonce Sunday.
Very light dusting on the car at Tods Corner early, less than Miena. Then at 8am we got a heavier snow show that settled a little better and made the bushes start to turn white. It melted really quickly.
Showers were just not making it to the East.
The snow was even heavier behind Miena, nothing to do with elevation when at this height.
Mt Field had a very nice early season fall with 5-10cm

Nice pic PH! The weather has certainly done as 360 since the back end of Jan.

Yeah LD, probably a bit on the boring side for the next week or two but looks like it might start to heat up again as well, early next week could be a return to consistently warmer temps in the mid to high 20's.
