NW /SE oriented rain band arriving sunday 2nd march.Trough.

Tasmania in the westerly belt late Monday 4th march.

cut off low from the westerly belt Tuesday night.

Rain and wind for much of the state on Wednesday from this cut off.

Should be a welcome reprieve from the western flank of this intense mid- latitude high.

Hobart's 38.0c at 1pm ties with the March state record at Campania, in 2008. How high could it go. Amazed right now it's quiet in regards to fire.

LD, Hottest temp at that site for any month (previous high was a 39.0 in Feb) and a March record at that site by more than 4 degrees.

Afternoon all.

A large Bushfire is currently burning out at Orielton, under emergency warning. Figerpost rd blocked/closed. Please stay safe out that way eveyone! Conditions are far from ideal.

Also about 3000 property's without power around Orielton, Campania, Pontville, Brighton and Bridgewater. Powers off at home, luckily we've got generator backup power and a well insulated house keeping it at 21c inside while tha A/C is off.

VERY HOT conditions out this way along with the rest of the Southeast district. 37.6 C is the current temp at Brighton, its been sitting around 38C since around 1pm, very very dry aswell, not to mention the gusty Northerly!

Please stay safe out there all.

It has been over 37c for four hours: that's quite rare even in the height of summer. Not surprised under these conditions an incident has happened to keep fire fighters busy.

Evening all,
Made it to 36.9 degrees here today, a very hot day for 300m asl.
Fire has taken a run again in the Pedder/ Gordon areas not the best after all the hard yards that have been done.

Hi all,

Talk about a contrast in local micro climates! Currently 30C out here at Brighton, NW wind averaging 39 km/h gusting just off 70 km/h meanwhile the city is a comfortable 22C with calm winds! Seems those upper level winds have mixed down quite nicely out here.

Anyway max yesterday of 38.1C at Brighton, exact same max at both Campania and Hobart AP.

Thickness down to 532 in SW corner of Tassie as the cold front and westerly belt trough passes through on Wednesday 6th march
Chance of low level snow ? in some parts. Should get some snow somewhere one would think.

Quite a cold afternoon on the back of those passing showers crikey! Felt it on the 20 minute walk back home having forgotten to take my jumper. Didn't see any snow on the summit but there was probably a dusting at the top at some stage - not unusual any time of the year. Perhaps a 'moderate' cold change for March rather than something unusual? I would personally classify 'low level' snow as a covering 700m or under in early autumn, but it's subjective. In winter and the side months I am sure it is officially <400m. Very nice change though! Mt Wellington summit coldest spot overnight at -1.2.

That weatherzone story mentions Dover's 40.1c as the hottest site on Saturday. Thirty years of records there. Went under the 'reporting' radar as its a manual reading site.

Not much happening really and not much in the forecast either, but we did reach a low of 1.0 yesterday morning, following that cold front, which I think is the earliest 1 degree (or lower) night I've had whilst living here, but I'd have to check. Very dry all over the state, drove from here to Hobart and it's pretty average looking.

Dipped even lower this morning to 0.7, had some light frost. Looks like another run of warm (dry) days coming up, still haven't recorded rain this month. If we get any, it's all going to be loaded in the back end of the month.

Tasmania will be in the line of fire of an intense low emerging from the westerly belt on Monday march 24th. Probably good it is passing by quickly. Some very close isobars. Storm/gale force winds and some wet stuff.
