Some impressive numbers starting to appear in the wheatbelt and south coast, notably 45.8 at Morawa, low 44s at Dalwallinu and Cunderdin and 43.0 at Esperance.

Heat melts through WA
Martin Palmer, Tuesday December 29, 2009 - 19:16 EDT
Records have tumbled across Western Australia as a short lived heat wave makes its mark.

On Monday many parts of the southwest sweltered as the mercury soared into the 40's. Today however, the mercury smashed into the 40's, destroying some December records.

Overnight, it was an uncomfortable one for many as minimums stubbornly refused to drop anywhere near average. Some places such as Karnet dropped to only 23 degrees, their warmest December night since 1965.

Carnamah, barely dropped to 29, 13 above average and their warmest December night since 1940, or the warmest night since 1991.

Through today, the trough responsible for drawing the intense interior heat south moved eastward. The 'cool' change that arrived in Perth in the late morning held the maximum back at a mere 39 degrees.

The main heat was further east, affecting the Great Southern, Central Wheatbelt and South Coastal.

The hot spots were:

Morawa - 47 degrees, hottest in December for 12 years.

Esperance - 45 degrees, 21 above average, hottest day since at least 1991.

Hyden - 46 degrees, 14 above average, hottest in December since 1970.

Dalwallinu - 45 degrees, 12 above average, hottest in December since 1957.

I find in a climate like Perth in Summer (would most likely be the same for Adelaide or most areas that experience dry heat) that you need to keep drinking water or things with water in them like fruits or cups of tea.

opplevelse is your avatar moving or it it just my eyesight ?

Not too bad today. Dry heat.

I wonder who the heck decided to build our house with a enormous window facing east ( where the sun rises) . It is amazing the heat that gets in through it with the blind open. I have to keep telling people to keep it shut from 5am to around 11 ish.

Thank goodness there is a fresh seabreeze forecast today and tomorrow.

Hot spell for Perth
http://www.weatherzone.com.au/news/hot- ... erth/13466
Alex Krisman, Saturday January 2, 2010 - 16:06 EDT
Hot and dry easterly winds will prevail over Perth for much of the coming week, leading to a prolonged hot spell.

Temperatures are expected to peak in the high 30's or low 40's on Sunday 3rd, and again on Wednesday 6th as a stagnant weather pattern prevents significant cool changes from moving in.

This continues the heat experienced in December, which witnessed average maximum temperatures of 30.8 degrees, 2.1 above average making it the hottest December in 10 years.

Less extreme conditions are expected to develop from Thursday the 7th, with temperatures returning to near or below average temperatures for a few days.

- Weatherzone

----

Flies are in force during the day, mosquitoes out at night. Very dry and warm air with no seabreeze today here in Jandakot area. Last 3 days previously it was gusty and cooled things down nicely.

When you don't get a seabreeze a evaporative airconditioner comes very much in handy.
------

I suspect they may get sued.

I find in that type of weather that if you are outside that you need to drink loads of water because the weather just dehydrates the body. It is like a oven blasting hot dry toasty air in your face and hair. Feels ok for a few minutes because it is a dry heat , next thing you are thirsty as.

Not much of a seabreeze here today. Hopefully it comes through in full force tomorrow.

Brigadoon now has bushfires.

Time for bed now....Still 28 degrees at 11.23pm.

No seabreeze and still hot dry and windy outside (36deg). The birdbaths keep drying up with the hot dry and windy east to south east winds.

No sign of rain in Perth, hasn't rained for 50 plus days... the land is so tinder dry and it isn't helping with these gusty dry SE/E/NE winds, from the last few days. All the garden would have dried up if it wasn't for all the mulch. I am missing the seabreeze !

It was 37 degrees today in Perth and it is still hot now outside with 25 degrees outside ! though the humidity isn't too bad.

Last night was an awful sleep, and that was despite the AC working?! Oh well ...

What is the longest dry spell on record for Perth?
