WZ synoptic predicts a new high to move in behind the weak cold front and we'll getting warm weather again. When will we get our first moderate cold front?

BTW we haven't seen a cyclone up north for a while, what's happening here? I thought the season wasn't over for another month yet.

At last the back of the long, hot and humid summer here in Perth has been broken. Never in my life have I been so looking forward to wet, cool weather.
I am going dancing in the rain tonight at midnight when that front hits us. grin

More rain for the South West
Friday April 8, 2011 - 14:03 EST

The Bureau of Meteorology says a low pressure system and associated cold front expected on Sunday, could provide significant rainfall to the South West region.

The bureau says the South West, South Coast and much of the Great Southern could get as much as 30 millimetres of rain.

Models indicate the Goldfields areas could get as much as 15 millimetres.

The rain would be enough for farmers in the Wheatbelt to begin seeding.

Maybe the next load of fronts to go through next week will deliver more rain.

Well this next front is weak and although is has tropical interaction it will slide southeastwards and only brush the south coast. So long as we get rain I suppose . . .

Perth takes a step back to summer
Alex Krisman, Sunday April 17, 2011 - 10:18 EST

Saturday in Perth must have felt like a step back in time to summer, with the city climbing to an unusual April temperature of 35.7 degrees. This is 11 degrees above the monthly average and the hottest temperature recorded this late in autumn since 1972.

The unseasonable warmth was caused by a strong high pressure ridge that pulled dry interior air over the west coast of WA. Hot northeasterly winds turned northerly during the day, gusting over 40 km/h and causing the mercury to steadily climb over 35 degrees by 2pm. These winds were also bone-dry, with the relative humidity below 20 percent for much of the day.

The intense heat was ended by a late weak change, which slowly cooled things off. Temperatures will be near average from today until mid-week as milder southeast to southwest winds prevail.

With this last hot spell broken, Perth will almost certainly not see the mercury back above 35 degrees until Spring.
