Thats a direct influence from the East coast significantly dropping temps in the last few weeks . Perth should eventually see the same .

Yes its nearly time to bag up the boardies and the dbl pluggers. And dig out the jumpers socks and shoes and rack up the gas bill. frown frown
Hope it rains(p**ses down) soon. Whats left of the bush 30k south of Perth is looking like a European Autumn. 400+ yr old trees on the death knock, so Hobby farmer Joe can have a green acre of lawn. Grr im the winter grinch

Ps.hope we get a good storm out of this trough smile

I have decided to start posting more frequently in here again and not so much in the neverending summer thread, considering temps are almost close to average again.

---

Tuesday is just a shower or two, looks like we will have to wait till next Friday before we see proper rain which only gives us 10 days to get the average . It keeps getting pushed further out, initially it was Tuesday we were supposed to get rain.

Mate , I'd say your gonna get a pleasant surprise soon . If not more than they expect tomorrow . Then Tuesday -Thursday ( time of arrival to hard to pinpoint ) but a strong WNW inflow to a decent cold front . Keep an eye on the general forecast , they have already started mixing it up ! Anytime the BOM has uncertainty in a Perth forecast is Good for the unexpected .....

When we had that rain over easter the BOM didn't predict as much rain as we got . It seems when we get a lot of rain the bom has not forecast it a few days earlier.

It is like waiting for Christmas as a kid. We have had such a long hot summer especially February and March being hot. The local duck pond is drying up and the lake that feeds it has turned to mud. The council is not watering our park to save water this winter (I think it is a good idea, however with the heat in April and then 30 deg this month) once the grass dries the sand starts coming through and it becomes like a sand pit. We cut a plant back and the heat got to it in April ! and it was a drought tolerant plant !.

Yeah we got a lot more rain out of that easter system. Also a recent front that slipped along the southcoast, the BOM was saying 5-10mm out of it and we ended up with 24mm in total.

With a 1032 hp high to the west next Saturday doesn't that mean this rain pattern will be short lived ? The highs are not north yet.

The high seems to follow through and even there is a hint of ridging onto the far western coast around next sunday . But it does look very slow moving , ( and the Current High situated near Ceduna will block all Eastward movement as it keeps its snail pace , even once its left our continent and stalls around NZ . These alternating patterns of upper limits( 1030< ) high pressure cells with areas of middle to general low pressure (<1020) tend to move together in a chain / or train . If there is slow movement ahead ( far further east of these systems) then they themselves will be slow moving . There is a distinct possibility that if that ridging doesn't consolidate then Fronts and the Poleward Tropical returns currently sitting in the Middle of the Indian will simply rotate round the High and push up from more of a southerly direction . Your correct in saying that the Highs haven't shifted Nth . But we have seen a break in what seemed to look like a set pattern ( High centred on Kalgoolie , Esperance, Eucla or further sth ) . I've always noted that these blocking patterns tend to only last 10-14 days max . So we should by percentages see more unstable weather for atleast 7-10 days starting now .

When do the highs usually move north? Last winter the highs didn't move north at all hence the record dry we had.

Thats the Million dollar question . Even the smartest out there are bamboozled . After all Atmosperics really are just one big lava lamp that tends to lend itself to chaos theory . Hence we'll never be able to forecast confidently beyond 5-6 days for specific weather details for an accurate location . Seasonal on the other hand is a little easier due to the slower chaos of the Oceans currents . !!!

Well if your lending logic to guesswork. I can hear a symphony of frogs singing the rain dance.
And they are loud. With this drought weve endured, Im guessing they have alot of taddies built up wink

Yeah 5mm so far out of this rainband for us, though the rain is fairly isolated. Most places in the Perth Metro area scored less than a 1mm. Thunderstorms predicted for Perth this arvo.
