Well I only ended up with 6.8mm! You guys up north of me all stole the rain....AGAIN!! haa haa wink

Last night on channel 9, they spoke to Neil Bennett I think, (Could be very wrong?) and they asked if these "Mini tornadoes" are becoming more frequent over the last few years? He responded with, no I dont think they are, its just that people are living now in the areas that they occur or something along those lines. Dixi responded with "Makes sense"

I was very happy, smile just cause they get reported now, everyone thinks that they happen so much more.

Did anyone see the report on "Today, Tonight" (Ch7 6.30pm) about tornados in Perth? I thought it was rather well done. Several eyewitness reports from yesterday's event describing the circulating debri around the twister and the classic "It sounded like a freight train coming through". It also repeated the line from above that it's not more tornados happening, it's just that there are more people about. The BoM's advice? "If you hear a freight train when you don't live near a railway, move to a safe part of your house." wink

Well, the changes in Breaking weather forum, splitting it into two, kind of killed it for us over here. There are only a handful of people who can make any sort of serious weather prediction, so that means not much happens in the first forum, and then since most weather events are rather fleeting here, by the time someone starts a thread the event is over! So all us Perthites have set up camp in this thread. I don't think shouting at us is going to get us to move where we supposedly should be.

Is it just me or are the models really all over the place at the moment. I am finding it hard to get good ideas on exactly what events in the future are going to do based upon model data. It must be the Autumn blues or something...

With there being a moisture source to the nw it might make it more complicated as small changes in the mid level flow and stregth mean big differences in the amount of rain and the size of the systems.

Are my thoughts correct here or am I just feeling a bit twitchy of late after the last system went weaker than expected

2.9C at the metro site this morning which is the 3rd coldest May min on record. Very chilly all over the SW with quite widespread frosts by the looks of things, coldest I can see was Collie East with a rounded off -3C!

Its not just you Mike, they are all over the place lately, yeah must have something to do with the time of year I think, they always say Spring and Autumn are the hardest season to predict because they are so changeable

What is the reasoning behind keeping all "breaking weather" discussion in that thread. wouldn't it be better just to leave it up to the person posting the message...this is a general weather forum so we're talking about the weather generally whether it be in the past, present or future

0.4 in jandakot! definitely cold around perth this morning. rode to uni in t-shirt and shorts, pretty stupid! looks like some showers on the horizon but looking like we may be in for one of the driest may's on record. bunbury has had under 10mm this month so a few records across the south-west could be broken.

i agree that may will be the driest

according to the bom latest outlooks only perth will have a 50-55 percent chance of rainfall with no strong odds to below or above average rainfall

everywhere else
warm temps
below average rainfall

I wouldn't be too worried at this stage, none of the models suggest anything too rough. The Bom are going for a pretty strong system though

Well it doesn't look like a cut off low will form anymore. The cold front itself doesn't look all that strong either.
I would be changing the forecast on Monday to only a shower or two as I can't see the area of rain and cloud off the NW coast extending down past the Shark Bay area.

It should be quiet a nice sunny day tomorrow if this cloud sitting to the NW isnt dragged down
