There could possibly be some snow flurries on the Stirlings, specially with the passage of the cold pool down there, current temps at Albany is under 10C and several other places around there are around the same or cooler.

I remember reading on a website by this snowchaser that if the maximum is under 12 at Albany there is chance for snow on the bluff. BOM should get an AWS on the bluff!

I always look at Kattaning, Manjimup and Albany and if they are all in single figures with rain there is a reasonable chance of at least sleet at the hight of Bluff Knoll. Kattaning is currently 6.1c with rain and thats at 320m asl so at 1000m asl it should be around 1-2C so there is a good chance there would be snow/sleet falling there at the moment, though I imagine it wont hang around too long if it does indeed fall.

Having a look at rainfall for Autumn, the lowest on record is 42.4mm in 1983 and currently we are on 60mm exactly (as of 4pm) so that would put us in second place for the lowest rainfall for Autumn! very dry indeed. We should get that record as we need abother 3.8mm to fall into 3rd place.

I like the forecast of fine weather for the next week, although not good for the rainfall I would much prefer the sunny weather.

A dud May rainfall wise doesn't always write off the winter - IIRC in 1996 we had next to nothing in May, and the first week and a half of June, but then things went ballistic. We ended up with nearly 900mm for the year.

Yeah still plenty of hope for a nice wet winter, specially considering it hasnt started yet! smile and yes May 96 was a reasonably dry one, 50.6mm fell and then in June 96 221.4mm fell! and if I remember right that was when Mundaring weir overflowed.

Though there doesnt seem to be an overwhelming correlation between a dry May and wet June it does seem to happen that way more often than not. The thing is though in June we average 180mm so thats about 6mm a day which means we need some of these big fat slow highs to bugger off for a while! smile

Well, Vinny, it was just a few days ago that that site predicted something like 7 days out of the next 10 were 'high' probability, so that tells me it can change very quickly, so I guess that means it can quickly change back too? Still, I have to have my 2 cents worth of gripe about May at my place:

Total from system just gone = 2.2mm
Total for May = 24.6mm (normally 120, last year 190!)

I sure hope the Elders prediction is very wrong, but it's sure not looking promising for the first week of the wettest month of the year...

and they said perthsrainfall would decline due to global warming etc......

Over Western Australia the strongest cold fronts should occur about 28 May to 01 June, 09-10 June, and 19-20 June (www.ELDERSWEATHER.COM.AU)

oh dear!.....

One thing's for sure, there is a lot of moisture off to the NW being wasted at the moment as we can't get a decent cold front to drag it down and activate it. There is probably more moisture off to the NW than there was last year but not a single front strong enough to make use of it. Nothing on the radar for at least the next week either, according to the models.

I tell yah, if this was summer and we had a sat pic like we do today I would be very excited! smile though unfortunatly its not but still, it is fairly impressive nether the less! I just hope that the moisture hangs around till our next front comes along, which looks like being in about a weeks time. Either that or someone start designing a cold front generator! laugh smile

Apparently it has been the second driest Autumn on record. You wouldn't really know it, though, there is plenty of moisture around and the weeds are well on their way already.
