Keep 'em coming! Note how Eyre Ck has stopped while it fills Lake Machattie to its east. On the Diamantina, which will be renamed the Warburton after the currently filling Goyders Lagoon is full, the next gauging is at Poothapoota waterhole.Link: https://www.waterconnect.sa.gov.au/Systems/SiteInfo/Pages/Default.aspx?site=A0021005&period=HRLY

This site is about 3 km downstream of the Warburton Crossing where The Rig Road leading into the Simpson Desert crosses the river.Once it goes under next month it could be too deep till June. Cheers.... W

The flood reached Poothapoota at 7:30 this morning. Living in an area where even the biggest floods are up and down in a matter of hours it's hard to comprehend how slow moving things are out there.

Looks like the lagoon up at Glengyle? has filled up as much as it's going to from that branch.

Lake Machattie, on the infrared it looks like there's still a fair bit of water further up, but I would think it's unlikely there's enough to get through all the sand dunes to reach the Warburton.

Couple more days and it should reach the lake.

The Poothapoota waterhole gauge has only operated since Nov 2011 but this 2019 flood is the biggest at 5.7 m. 2011 and 2016 both got to 5.2 m. Now 0.5 m doesn't sound like much but out in that flat country a small rise means a heck of a lot more water. This is spread across the dunes and plains as the blue colour on the sat pix shows.
Poota does not give a flow rate but for comparison Birdsville had 111GL/day at 8.0 m but at 7.5 m it was down to 65 GL/day and at 7.0 m 41 GL/day. Yes, the effect is less at lower gaugings e.g at 6.0 m 27 GL daily but only down to 23 GL at 5.5 m. After Poota the flow splits into the Kallakoopah to the west of the Warburton but they rejoin just north of the shores of Lake Eyre and flow down the Warburton Groove into the lake. On the LEYC site dated the 16th they say the water has reached the lake.

Long way out, but if Cyclone Trevor impacts the catchment, this could be a long thread.
