27mm ... yes that's 27mm ... here overnight and today. It's been mostly through steady, soaking heavy mist and drizzle. Yes, that's 27mm!

I hear Royal Maffra Golf Club got 21mm as read late this morning?

35mm TB, now that's getting handy !

RMGC will look nice with that amount P, nothing like rain, as
opposed to sprinklers, to get grass going.

Just on 10mm so far in Sale (town).

Yes samboz, very nice ... but it's restricted ... less in Bairnsdale, much less at Sale, in the Tambo Valley etc so must be very dependent onreach of the system, topography and angle at which the winds interact with it.

Got clipped by the southern end of a thunderstorm, solid rain for 5-10 mins, small hail could be heard hitting the window but wasn't able to see any of the ground and lots of thunder. The garden should enjoy that as much as I did.
It has now dissipated as a much larger cell has formed over the eastern suburbs. It looks like a beast on radar, especially the last frame (17:54), lots of brown!

Decent hail in Doncaster around 5:50pm, pushing cherry sized. One very loud clap of thunder.

Anyone else ever seen BOM issue an emergency warning on EmergencyVic

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Inner East, Northern and parts of Inner, South East and Outer East Local Warning Areas.

HEAVY RAINFALL and LARGE, POSSIBLY GIANT HAILSTONES are likely.
This thunderstorm is very dangerous.
If you are located in Croydon and Lilydale areas, you are in danger. You should immediately move indoors to stay safe.

This was sent to CFA members in area

VERY DANGEROUS THUNDERSTORM WARNING MEMBERS IN THE WARNING AREA ARE TO CEASE ALL NON-PRIORITY 1 EVENTS AND TAKE SHELTER

I havenít seen such rapid intensification in vic, i helped out with some work in south east qld on the interaction between the valleys and sea breezes to strengthen thunderstorms. Will be interesting to see what was at play here.

Hi folks.

Thanks ThunderBob. Almost didn't know which direction to photograph first. There was so much going on. I have another shot of some mammatus clouds too. The build up was rather quick. You could hear a wind/wooshing sound above and some of the clouds were circulating.

Speaking of which smeagols_ghost, it was so humid, that it didn't surprise me that the storms built up so quickly. One minute it was pleasant sunshine whilst feeding my maggies and crows, then the other birds went nuts as the cloud built up. I have seen a super fast build up once before with the same conditions - after which we had cyclonic type winds.

[I'll get back to the EQ's tomorrow hopefully]

Cheers, Duck.

I don't agree with it being set as an Emergency Warning in Vic Emergency. It came fairly late in the piece. Let the National Weather people do their thing and try and get an automation working when they upgrade to the new supercomputer. I feel the more they start using advice messages and the likes for things other than fire the effectiveness of them will wear off and people will become complacent. I think they need to come up with different warnings and colours for different events. (My personal pet peeve is the state wide advice message for severe heat, so I can't see where the fire advice messages are around the state).

Hi logansi, I meant to say in my last post that I saw that emergency warning too - which I found 'interesting'. I feel that for a weather 'emergency' there almost needs to be a disaster level event. The storms produced some and had the potential to produce some nasty flooding etc.. but it was 'interesting' all the same.

I agree with Dawoodman that perhaps different colours for severe weather events would be good. Perhaps we are so used to red warnings for fire events that one for the weather may have shocked the socks off some people.

Cheers, Duck.

Yep nice photos DW smile

Been away for 9 days - Maffra had 18.5mm rain during that time (mostly last Monday week?).

Falls of around 3" were reported up Merimbula/Bega way from that same system.

.....now looking for a decent follow up system (.....and not seeing one!).

Had a second fine calm and sunny day (28/26 C) day out this way.

Cloud and a light NW'ly arriving now to herald in the looming weak change.
