Looks like a bit of human input in the 9.39 am updated Sydney forecast.

Sydney area
Mostly sunny. Slight (30%) chance of a shower or thunderstorm in the far west during the afternoon and early evening, possibly extending across the basin. Northerly winds about 10 km/h tending north to northeasterly 15 to 25 km/h near the coast.

Yeah Homer, I was just looking at stormcast and was thinking storms are a possibility than I looked at the forecast and saw the update as well!!

As for the front next week, I don't think it will even get the mullet to run.

After all this recent rain, the mosquitos here are in there millions and I have even seen the odd Hexham grey too!! Already gone through a couple of bottles of Bushmans.

The bulk of the instability seems to be right along the coastal fringe. Pretty decent CAPE and LI. Looking forward to seeing how it pans out

Well it never ever looked like a storm would develop up this way, not even close.

Just an all round beautiful Autumn day.

A beautiful day today with what is probably the last of the Summer wine over the next few days. Probably Sydney's last 30+ day until Spring next Monday.

Tuesday's front seems to have been wound right back, now it's just a few flakes in the Alps before quickly ridging across. Several days of cloud and showers on the coast, nothing inland. The models hint at a better front early the following week.

Only Tuesday is forecasted to get some rain here while I notice Sydney has it til Thursday. But I would not be surprised if there was no rain at all in this area. Sydney has a better chance but I reckon only Tuesday will rain. This is the type of setup where Eddy may get heaps of rain but nowhere else gets much.

Since the storm season's almost certainly over (happy to be proven wrong), here's the rest of my lightning footage from this season.

Hoping to get a new video camera before next season, researching options for 4K video like Fuji XT3, Nikon Z6. Perhaps something even better will be released soon (A7Siii perhaps??)

Nice little vid and yeah hopefully we can manage one more storm before winter.

Ive probably asked this question before, what camera are you currently using? Your slow mo looks good.
I just looked at the A7Siii 4K @ 60fps and 1080 @ 240fps, I would be happy with 1080 @ 240fps.

A nice looking day outside again.

Yes, great lightning video LC. I especially liked the loop around 1:03. Some impressive captures.

I had a look at my storm spreadsheet. In the last season, I had a storm on April 29 (cold pool moves up the coast). There were four more events after that: May 30 (including small hail) and June 6, 19 and 26, the June events being more 'thundery rain' than storms. Then nothing, not even much rain, until September.

To finish 2016-17, there were events on April 26, May 24 (very loud 'inversion thunder') and June 7.

So the main season is over, but maybe there's a bit more to come.

P.S. my storms for 2018-19 to date, at or near home unless otherwise stated:

Code:
September: 7, 26, 28
October: 10, 17, 18, 20
November: 2, 28
December: 13, 14, 15, 19, 20, 31
January: 5, 13, 27
February: 8
March: 6, 14, 23 (Somersby), 30 (small hail)

To count as a storm, need rain plus at least one of visible lightning, audible thunder or hail. A distant light show noted but not counted. Distant rumbles not counted.

Eddy Iím currently using Sony HDR - AX2000. It was a pro level camcorder but itís about 9 years old and very outdated. Basically 1080P and 25 frames / second. Data rates only 28 megabits per second. Built in ND filters and manual iris / focus have been handy though.

Panasonic HC - X1GC is a modern 4K equivalent which Iím also considering.

Iíve also recently bought a GoPro 7 black. The wide angle lens does a great job of making bolts 3 km away look distant!

With Daylight saving done looks like the gloomy winter finally sets in with early sunsets.
Nice vid LC.

That an interesting count Steve it seems we pulled a barely above average storm season accounting for the Sep-Mar period. The average by my calculations is 18.4 and we pulled 22 days from your count. That kind of says something by our severely lowered standards.

100% accurate; I've counted a similar number of storms in Parramatta and it is only slightly above average. I guess our low standards from the previous few years has meant that we enjoyed this storm season more which is a good thing.

And yeah Kino I'm also hoping for some interesting winter weather, I like really hot summers and really cold winters to balance.

Nice detail. I think the entire of Sydney remembers being woken up by the sound of the world ending that morning in May. The only time I've ever heard thunder like it.

As for the end of the storm season, we're about to have the 20th anniversary of a not-insignificant hailstorm. wink

Mr Pecos Hank on YouTube (best lightning I have seen) uses a global shutter Black Magic for lightning.

Know what you mean about the Gopro, this is the reason I have stayed away from them, just too much wide angle.

Great clip by the way.

Yh Pecos Hank is also a personal favourite of mine. I wonder what he'd make Australian Storms look like if he ever comes down here. After America we have some of the most dynamic storms in the world, I can claim.
