Sneaky heavy shower around 3am here with what appeared to be a shortwave trough pushing through.

Brief showers here too, but very little in it (in fact nothing registered at Maitland Airport).
SSE winds and only 22C right now.
Still above the average for April so far, can't remember the last time April was below average for the month, it would have to be over a decade ago.

Some good solid downpours here today, even had some very small scattered hail too.
Have heard some reports of a waterspout or two about today.

20.1mm today.

It was overcast early but the cloud broke up mid-morning to a mostly sunny, coolish day. Sydney OH spiked to 24 around 2:00 PM but most Sydney locations maxed at 22-23. There were some interesting, bubbly cloud formations about in the middle of the day, especially to the North, but no rain.

Not surprised about the waterspout reports. I was watching the ocean here early AM as it had that look, but nothing and the beefier CU cleared NE towards your area.

Yep I did spy one this morning as I was crossing the bridge, but it was a long way out to sea, I thought about turning around as I had my camera with me but I didn't have my zoom lens which was needed.
But in saying that I did waste a quite a few hours at the beach after lunch trying to spot one, needless to say not much work got done today!!

A couple of pics of todays clouds late this evening, was hoping to spot a spout or two but not to be. I did see plenty of little lowerings that had the potential.

Nice pictures Eddy. The rain is around again today, in the Lake Macquarie area with scattered calls further North.

In Sydney, there's been no rain for a while - 9 days at OH, the longest dry spell there since mid February. We've had some cloudy days, though. Today is typical - sunny start then cloud rolls in mid morning.

April in Sydney at the mid point is tracking dry and a little warmer than average:

Sydney OH:
Min Max : 15.8 - 24.6 (-0.2 - +0.8)
Rainfall: 11 mm (9% of April monthly average)

Bankstown:
Min Max : 13.4 - 25.5 (-0.3 - +1.0)
Rainfall: 9 mm (11% of April monthly average)

Average temps for the first half of April have been computed as 25% March + 75% April. 1981-2010 average temps have been used for OH.

I have a great view to the east and from quite high. Seen a couple of spouts today but they have been quite far off the coast.
They are Schrödinger spouts; when I go to type an alert on this forum they dissipate.

The Weather Underground PWS network still has the old view available. My site is https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?id=INEWSOUT344#history.
Insert the site id you wish to see to get rapid fire and sensible metric values with correct decimal places.

WA's getting all the fun, it seems. frown mad

The Weather.com forecast for Perth shows 8° / 14° C on Friday, so if Weather.com wins the wager against BOM's (often overestimated) forecast, it might very well break records back to April 16th, 1919—in which Perth recorded an April maximum of 13.6° C; 100 years.

I'm wagering money on Weather.com to win the forecast bet, as BOM often overestimates during these polar fronts by quite a bit—from experience, it is always the case for my region.

That front won't be reaching the East of NSW. Weather.com shows something like the current pattern continuing indefinitely.

It was surprisingly warm today, with Sydney OH spiking to nearly 26°. Most of Sydney except the outer West was a degree or two cooler.

There were some nice cloudscapes about. Here's the view North around 1:00PM:

Absolutely loving the weather atm, the loss of daylight saving means that i don't have to tote around a jumper in the morning, because the temperatures are at 18 by the time i've left.

Also on the point of accuracy the West Coast I feel performs a lot better with the BOM due to the lack of factors at play, things are a lot more straightforward, With Ridging and Moisture patterns. Meanwhile us over here see Moisture have to travel over the driest inhabited continent, and predicting Tasman ridging and can be an absolute pain.

The Illawarra (particularly Shellharbour and south) has been in glorious blue skies last two days. You would hardy think that 150km north up the coast it was showery.

There was a shower in the city around 10:30am. I’m surprised OH didn’t pick up a trace.

Despite all the showers in recent days the weather hasn't been all that bad, there has been very little wind and quite warm when the sun is out.
Anyway waterspouts have been teasing me of late, see pic below.

West Cape Howe, WA; southernmost point in WA, at sea-level (35° S), with a 9° C forecast maximum by BOM (Meteye)...not in July, in bloody April. Now this is bound to either approach or shatter the 100-year April cold record—held previously on the 16th, 1919; going by Perth Regional Office's date-of-record.

This is one behemoth of a polar front! Straight out of the South Indian Ocean.

Nice Pic Eddy!

Looks like it may also break an early snow record in WA with meteye predicting some snow on the Stirling Range with this front. Which is absolutely incredible only if we had something like that moving through NSW with North-West Moisture.
