Hydro Tasmania has information on its cloud seeding program here http://www.hydro.com.au/water/cloud-seeding . You asked a good question, they actually test the soil at different locations looking for traces of chemicals they use in the process. The fact that they have to do that is a bit concerning.

Farmers in the midlands have criticised cloud seeding for reducing rain bearing clouds moving in from the west into the farming areas. West coast tourism operators and mining operations have also criticised it for causing intense rain at times and flash flooding.

I watched a documentary in the wee hours of the morning many years ago in regards to this in the American mid west and the opposition to it there was great. Well at least that is what the documentary wanted you to believe in any case.

Solar is another issue that we will have to address in time to come. What do we do with all these defunct panels full of very harmful chemicals?

Perhaps instead of reactionary vision we should maybe address our lifestyles themselves. Don't want to get into the whole smoke and mirrors of climate change, more so our own impact via selfish choices on our own lifestyles. The old saying.... when a building topples over, you must first look at the foundations for answers.

BoM reckons that this was the hottest summer on record for Tassie.

Been plenty said about the heat prior to this. smile

Like up this way, it's been quite unrelenting!! Also VERY dry down there, even the West Coast has been very dry this summer.

Sorry I meant about the record. Yes, plenty of comments about the heat and obviously for good reason. smile

Yeah no wonder there's been nasty bushfires- luckily in no man's land.

It doesn't really matter record blah blah blah , as far as I'm concerned we are in totally new territory now. Just hope everyone is going to enjoy their baking hot March as much as they like throwing darts.

Not throwing darts at you H, actually sympathising greatly with your frustration with the heat. If I was still there I'd have been bitching about it too, same as I do up here!! smile

I think you're right about new territory (climate wise) I fear Tassie will dry even more in the SE, seems to be trending that way for a while now.

Maybe a good La nina event will turn it around - fingers crossed. smile

An interesting point for today - at 9.40 this morning, Hobart is 2 degrees warmer than here, 24 vs 22. However
Hobart should stop at around 26 but we will push on (damn it) to 32.

A couple of weeks ago, you had some nice cooler weather down there and I thought, good, that's your Autumnal break kicking in, sadly it just went away again just like it's been up here except we missed the cool break unfortunately.

This next week here will see day temps around 7 or 8 degrees above average EVERY day for a week. It is also likely to continue in that vein until around the middle of the month.

This has been a very hot summer for many of us and most of us do not enjoy it. (Except SF Dave who loved it!!!! ) grin Weirdo!!! grin

It's hard to pinpoint the exact reason for Tasmania's climate shift over the last few years, I think the record warm seas off the east coast could be a major reason why we are having warm monthly anomalies consistently. That's not going to change, the east Australia current is on the move. Another thing is the westerly wind belt moving further south over the last twenty to thirty years reducing frontal systems with lingering cold air. But you are right, its unprecedented the last 4 or 5 years or so.

DaveM don't take this the wrong way nice to see your posts occassionaly - but you make an awful lot of posts in this thread and reply to absolutely everything, it's becoming more like the Dave thread. Maybe ease off a little.

I was just about to comment on that. The BOM seem to have an awfully bad time forecasting max. temps down there!

Original forecast for today released yesterday afternoon and this morning was 26C, it was updated at 10am to 28C and then it ended up reaching 31.6C... That's a massive error!

Jesus! Just looked back, Monday's forecast was 20C and it reached 28.1C, that's a HUGE error. There's a big difference between 20C and 28C!

Good to see you back in here this morning DM. smile

You are part of Tassie. Tassie is a part of you.

In fact, I'm surprised you haven't tried to rename Mt Panorama! wink

Wouldn't be the same without you! cool

And....should add something about the weather I guess.

I know all this late heat is a pain, but, the Rose Bay and Cradle Mt webcams are an absolute peach this morning. Stunning panoramas!

Looks like a cracker of a day, esp for travellers.
cool

Yep, how exactly do you think Dave should take what you said?
I think you owe him an apology. This is a forum. You don't post often Yep. And when you do it is often to correct someone or to disagree in an aggressive manner. I am not about to tell you to stop posting because of this. It's a forum! Free speech!
