I live between the ross dam and hervey's range about 3km from the base of the range, it seems to be an area that experiences higher than average temps in summer, in the last heat wave we recorded 48%, and like now the cold is extreme it is currently 1 degree and I expect at sunrise will drop to 0 degrees. Over the years I have been told the area has temperature inversions, suffers catabatic wind at night, top of the range-cold air dropping into the upper ross valley. Here at home yesterday morning it was 3 degrees at 7.30am and the radio mention the cold morning being suffered at picnic bay of 13 degrees at the same time, it would be only a 30km distance as the crow flies with a 10 degree temp drop. Lived in this spot for 30 years, has always been like this, the temps are colder than charter towers in winter and hotter in summer. This winter seems to be winding up to a colder than average, this year has been a wild old weather year, extreme heat then extreme flood hope winter does not go extreme where like green tree frogs here and suffer from the cold big time.

as you guys might have already read, this forum will be closing down in a few weeks.
As an 18 year member of the forum I have had the pleasure of meeting some great people, many of whom I can say are great friends.
We have had so many events in our part of the world over the years, it has been a real pleasure to go through the good and bad with you all. Sharing the experience has been what has made this forum a great place over two decades. Cyclones Larry, Yasi, Yuli and Debbie. So many flooding events, of course this years Townsville floods top that list for me and of course the lean years when 0.4mm was regarded as a relief to get a drop!!
While we are still some weeks away from closing, I just wanted to personally thank all of you for contributing to a great community.

Sadly technology moves on, if any of you have any suggestions in a way we car achieve the forums or have them transferred through to another site, please contribute to the thread in the general weather forum.

Kind regards,
and best wishes to you all for the future.

Were you consulted or even notified that this was happening? Or found out the same way?

It's been a good run guys. Much love.

Have made many good close friends out of this forum after joining In 2007. Remember it like yesterday.

I really hope someone can save the flood thread and the Yasi Thread

Regardless of what happens Trav, I'm thinking of downloading and storing entire threads if necessary.
