You can have your damned sunshine - give me some of your cloud grin

Another week of heating up down there too. Hobart running about 5 degrees above March max so far.

I'm still really watching mid month for a break in the cycle and a step down in temps.

Morning Veiwers,
Very nice 2.6mm overnight here in the SlowBart, overcast conditions now around 17.5c a bit cooler with a nice breeze.
Looking very hot this weekend , but not unexpected as it's the Taste of the Huon Festival. And yes every year without fail this long weekend is stinking hot. It's amazing how the heat re-occurs bang on the same weekend without fail. In fact one year they had 36c most of the 3 days and people were passing out because of the heat ( and probably too much cider ). Actually I look to this weekend because of that , every year as it signals to me the start of the cool down. Let's hope it works again this weekend.
I'm taking a great interest in the NSW thread from a distance up there Dave , it's certainly an amazing run of heat. As I did say in one of my previous posts I thought the big news would be this March event , it's just incredible how it is hanging around . It will be interesting to look at the numbers when it finally breaks down.
Cheers H

Cheers H smile

Yes the Taste of the Huon - as you say, hot conditions more often than not!!

Glad you had some precip, that would feel nice. We had 3.6mm here on Feb 12th, it was the only rain of the month of Feb and not a drop since. frown

I'm still really looking at the middle of March for an easing of conditions and a general change to a more Autumnal feel. smile

It's amazing seeing "Rain" written as the summary forecast for Hobart with totals of up to 2mm forecast. Here that would be written as a "possible shower" haha

For example.
Hobart forecast for Wednesday:
Rain.
Min 18, Max 25
Possible rainfall: 1 to 2 mm

Meanwhile in Townsville:
Showers.
Min 24, Max 31
Possible rainfall: 10 to 50 mm

Hey PVW, yes when I moved there in 98 I noticed that the rain in Hobart is OFTEN quite small droplets and not the big heavy drops I was used to in NSW.

Sometimes it "rained" all day for 1 or 2mm. smile

Now I'm back up here and getting (well not lately) much heavier rain droplets.

The NW and W of Tassie has heavier RAIN in general than the eastern side.

Bear in mind that the Hobart annual precip is really only a bit over 600mm, nowhere near as wet as probably 99% of Aussies (non tassie residents) think. The general idea for people on the Mainland is incorrectly that Hobart is bitterly cold and wet. As many of us here know - that idea is quite wrong. smile

Mornin all

Hey Dave, yes many have the misconception that Tassie is always cold and wet. In particular over here on the West Coast where during summer we at times record the highest daytime maximum temperature for the State.

Regards rain all day for 1-2mm, been like that over here a few times in last couple of weeks. Typical weather for this time of year. Though it seems a little early this year. At times the rain/mist is so light you can barely see it. Yet everything gets absolutely soaked!

17 but feeling rather cool, Sun trying hard to burn through the clouds.

Evening all, a very warm and humid day in Hobart today. Definitely no fun all done up in safety gear and wearing a respirator . Anyway got to around 24c and this arvo we got a few of those small droplets as above. It is still a very black sky as darkness falls , sitting around 20c and 70% humidity.
27c forecast now for tomorrow and that's a bit up on previous outlooks , so it may be very muggy.

From my limited time monitoring conditions in Tassie, I'd personally be forecasting more like 29 for Hobart tomorrow myself!

Looks like you might finally get some reprieve next Tuesday, maximum of 18 forecast on BOM at the moment, and computer models showing even lower max temps!

17 and compared to yesterday, at the same time, feeling very mild. Literally in the clouds, heavy mist/rain and calm. Visibility 100m.

12mm in the gauge.

Good Thunderstorm early hours this morning. Woke us up.

Lads I think we are all getting finally to the point of experiencing better weather than the last few months. About time!!!

Next week should finally see the end of the really hot weather. smile

Ditto , nice work PVW it's amazing the official forecast was not changed at 5:25 am this morning. I mean jeepers creepers Hobart was 20.5c last night at 12:00 am , you could see it coming a mile away. I think your new forecast will also be closer to the $$.
An interesting discussion on the above Climate Driver forum about tonight's Catalyst program on the ABC. I will be watching with interest as what the show's subject is about. It may be unmentionable on here , but what the show has to say may go along way to explaining Tasmania's warming climate and disappearing Winter rainfalls. Enough said as I don't want to get in the naughty room. smile

Grrrr this really is the never-ending summer.
Was checking March 2015 data on BOM and by this time last year we had already had 4 nights below 10 degrees and most days were below 20c as maximum temp.

Hope this doesn't indicate a mild winter on the way.

Sorry people , seems I should have gone to Specsavers ! I have misread the info and link and in fact the Catalyst episode was run in Sept 2013 . Sorry for the misguided info.
