Nice snow pics DVC.

----

Things have eased right off here, with little or no rain in the last hour or so. The rain has moved North to the Central Coast and lower Hunter. Most of Sydney received about 20 mm to 9:00, with higher falls in the SW. The Illawarra and its hinterland have been the main focus, with falls of 60+ mm from about Kiama to Ulladulla and falls of 40 mm around Goulburn.

There's still heavy rain out to sea coming, which is starting to come ashore in the Eastern suburbs, so there might be more to come.

Does anyone know whether we'll get that SE wrap going on again today or is it over.

Must admit I was expecting a bit more rain from this system.

Nowadays when I see the BOM's rainfall predictions I take the lower one as the actual possible maximum. So for around here they were predicting 20mm - 45mm, and we got the new 'maximum' of 20mm.

Just emptied the gauge - 43.8mm.

And my small snowman is still sitting on the back lawn surrounded by green grass!

Well that's almost how the ranges are intended to operate.

It's 50% chance of more than the lower end, and 25% more than the higher end.

So the lower end is a reasonable expectation according to the BOM too.

Scuddy showers on and off here today, as with some strong wind gusts. Looking like this event may be almost done but ACCESS still likes some heavy showers/rain as the low moves away and the flow becomes more southerly with a touch of e'erly in it.

There are a few blue sky patches here also and the Sun's trying to come out. Apart from a few wind-blown sprays, it hasn't rained for a few hours, although the radar is still showing showers along the coast.

The water's flowing over the Lane Cove wear for the first time since March, just 8 cm or so. It's been 12 - 13 on the car thermometer.

I would interpret a forecast of 20mm-45mm to be what we could expect, ie rainfall somewhere between 20mm to 45mm, not more and not less. It is not often that we get anywhere near the top forecast here, and most of the time it is below the minimum range.

OK, it may mean something else, but this is what got the BOM into serious trouble in the deadly 1998 Sydney to Hobart when the BOM forecast a wind range, and the sailors assumed that the top forecast range was the limit to the maximum wind speed, how wrong the sailors were! The BOM never fully explained that gusts 40% above the top wind speed forecast could happen.

This is the section of the BOM site - not that well understood though I agree

Some decent shower activity moving ashore here now providing brief horizontal downpours.

Snow on the Barringtop Tops, as is to be expected with any major cold outbreak, given the 1500 metre plus elevation up there:

https://www.winghamchronicle.com.au/stor...-of-the-season/

Not a snow chaser per se, but no doubt a good fall from this event.
Some huge surf and swells as well, would be well worth a look.
