It certainly was cold today 12.3c was my max, temp mainly hovered between 10c and 11c for the best part of the day.
There's also been a bit of precipitation too, 123mm to 9am this morning and about 15mm since, monthly total nudging 200mm.

I was wondering when you'd pop up!!

It was clear there was some decent fall's up your way. And, I too have been surprised at how cool daytime temps have stayed, until there was a small bit of sunshine today. It's been the same here.

Anyway, this event is pretty much over so it's now on to more important things.

………… GO THE BLUES!!!!

Thought we were having a proper old winter until i saw next weeks maximums. Don't think I've lived through a below average winter.

Penrith will possibly break the June max temp heat record next week if that forecast doesn't budge too much.

Fingers crossed it doesn't...

My forecast next week (BOM, Braemar Bay NSW) shows a maximum high of 11° C, with a maximum of 9° C for Cabramurra, which are nothing at all special for June. Certainly shows how utterly weak the Subtropical Ridge really is this far south.

Weatherzone/BOM have a tendency to over-forecast (hmmm, I wonder why!), and the Weather.com forecasts show a maximum of only 9° C for Anglers Reach and 8° C for Cabramurra next week; as for Sydney, 23° C instead of 25° C.

Then after that little "heatwave", back to low single digits for me, i.e. 4° C highs and drizzle/sleet combinations.

Last winter with mean winter temperatures at Observatory Hill below the 1961-1990 average was 1997. Last one below the all-years average was 1978 (although the all-years average is dragged down a bit by the cooler site pre-1917).

Event Wrap-up

After an interesting fees days, it's back to clear skies, warm afternoons and light breezes, so I thought I'd put together a bit of a wrap-up. Other posters might want to add their own observations / highlights..

Rain
Mostly coastal, with falls of 25 mm and above mostly confined to the coastal strip South of Coffs Harbour, extending inland to the Southern Tablelands around Goulburn. There were two small areas of 100+ mm, one near Port Stephens and another near Jervis Bay.

Temperatures: coldest maxima so far this year at many locations, with a number of 12's and 13's in coastal areas. Some locations had their coldest maximum in several years:
- Sydney OH: 14.1 on the 4th, coldest maximum since August 2016.

Snow: Good early season snow in some unexpected places:
- Settled snow in the Central Tablelands above about 900 metres, including Lithgow, Blackheath, Katoomba, Mt Canabolas
- Southern highlands / tablelands: reports of snow at Bowral (700 m) and Goulburn (700 m)
- Snowy Mountains (70 cm at Spencer's Creek)
- Barrington Tops
- Northern Tablelands

Winds: high winds on the 4th.
- Ulladulla 130 km/h
- Wattamolla 119 km/h

Storms:
- Storms reported in many locations with passage of the front on the 3rd
- reports of hail (Goulburn) and small hail (various locations)

Fantastic summary Steve thank you - can I please just note that Goulburn town sits between 620 metres and 650 metres asl. I'm in town 2 blocks from CBD at 640 masl and received estimated 6cm. Snow was still settled on the ground at 12 noon. Airport is 640 masl cheers! also funny that our max that day was 10 deg!
