46mm here in Gorokan on the central coast to 10am and then 9 mm since in very short sharp showers with some very small brief hail. I think radar is overestimating at present.

I just checked for your pws history and see you have changed again. You're with the Davis network now rather than Andrew's.

Do you know what time period that rain rate is using?

The rain rate measure seems to differ with the software you use. The sharing sites seem to do it over a longer time period (hour) than the software I use at home, weewx.

Davis/Andrew update every 60 seconds, and WU updates in rapid fire which is every 5 seconds, however the Davis console only refreshes rain rate every 20-24 seconds I think.

There are some punchy showers pushing up into the Basin again and we've just had some heavy rain start here. There's a train in fact that could give a line about 10km wide a sustained period of moderate-heavy rain. I'm just on the top of the 'f' on the word Marsfield on the 64km radar, so hopefully I'm under it.

Obs Hill might slip just to the south of it

Just as the maritime cloud cover starts to ease off from the east there is now a large swathe of high cloud now approaching from the west. I can already see the first wispy cirrus on the western horizon.

The June gloom continues. To borrow a phrase from California.

It's time to switch to the blue sky westerly pattern. The ski resorts are starting to get desperate.

It's clouded over now after some early sun. It doesn't seem to have rained for a while. My area was in the path of a couple of rain trains yesterday, with nearby Chatswood relieving 23 mm in the 24 hours to 9:00 for an event total of 60 mm. This compares to 11 mm to 9:00 at Sydney OH and an event total of 47 mm.

The models are showing different weather futures. ACCESS has a weak cold front passing through on Sunday with alpine snow, followed by a quick resumption of the Easterly pattern and an ECL off SE Qld at the end of its run. Meanwhile, GFS shows a stronger front on Sunday, with a S-SW pattern and more fronts to follow. EC looks more like ACCESS.

I'll vote for GFS as what I want. I don't know what is more likely.

Stop Press: just started raining.

Getting darker here - radar + satpic shows some stream showers trying to get happening. 9mm last night (only 1-5mm was forecast) takes this event to 24mm, which is better than I expected but still has us ~170mm behind average til end of June.

The model forecasts are interesting - ACCESS & EC would bring a more unstable, warmer and moister easterly flow, more akin to summer, whereas GFS looks for a traditional winter flow - colder drier SW'erlies for the lee-side of the ranges; snowier and wetter for the wind-side.

An upper cold pool moving over a moist warmer easterly flow could result in dam-filling rains. Interesting period of weather ahead *hopefully* but more likely that this se'erly dreariness will continue.

Here's the rainfall for June to date as at 9:00 this morning:

It's been a wet month - for a strip of coastline mostly about 15-20 km wide from Forster to Batemans Bay, extending a little further inland in the South. There's a small 200 mm bullseye around Jervis Bay.

A few totals in the Sydney area (mm) with distance from the coast (km):

Sydney OH: 155 mm ... 7 km
Parramatta : 60 mm ... 25
Penrith xxx : 45 mm ... 55

I feel like EC and Access most likely match the AAO profile. Hopefully we get a bit of an easterly dip going so that the inland can join in the fun. Although with dominant positive phases in Summer i feel like the easterly moist flow isn't really a summer pattern anymore.

The showers streaming in here the past few hours have a bit of an ECL feel happening. fresh gusty S/E winds and quite steady associated.

About 80m for this event for here and nearly approaching the 300mm mark for the month of June, only need another 2.7mm and if that happens that will be three consecutive June's that have cracked 300mm.

80m? That’s a hella lot of rain 😂😂😂😂 jealous

Meanwhile how are we weather nerds supposed to forecast the weather when the models can’t even agree - this arvos runs literally has 3 totally different scenarios, ranging from a cold pool + ECL (ACCESS), weak cold front and SW’erly stream and snowies snow + easterly dip (EC), and weak front plus a large high (GFS).

The last time I recorded less than 100mm in June was 2011. Only got 99.5mm that year.

That's so interesting that you didn't get 100+ mms in June 2016. Because I myself 20kms from the ocean copped 332.8mms that month.

2012 for me when only 94.8mm fell.
And overnight I did crack the magical 300mm mark for the month.
