I watched some report on TV yesterday and they said the OPEC members have agreed to cut production slightly which will drive up our prices by $0.06 to $0.08 cents a litre soon.

Yeah it's crazy, the Shell in Dapto was $1.31 earlier and the 7/11 about 300m to the south is just $1.07.

Unfortunately I was running low of fuel last night and had to stop at the nearest petrol stn in Figtree which was $1.31 also.

Agree. Seems when the media focus goes off prices; they skyrocket right back to where they were.

Free market forces don't apply when the buyer doesn't "know the market" like the seller does.

We have RACQ, NRMA, RACV and AAA organisations all over the country, claiming to represent their members, but, except for the occasional lofty pontification, they haven't really bothered to mobilise their members.

A fairly simple free mobile phone app to report fuel prices every time they fill up shouldn't be too hard for these organisations to commission and implement, using their members as "real-time data collectors". It just has to be simple, straight forward and able to provide some easily accessed benefit for their members.

That very popular spyware, Facebook, has already shown us how to do it well.

Knowledge is power.

Not much cheaper here in Wollongong. A few independents in Port Kembla have high 1.40s, but mainstream is higher.

We have a double whammy of rising crude oil prices and a weaker $A dollar. I have never been a fan of a weak dollar which economists love - Yes, I know the reasons why, but the flip side is there too.

There are a few out there - NRMA does have one.

Have you tried it? I haven't, so I can't comment.
I used Fuel Watch in NSW for a while, but found that there weren't enough posts to keep the prices up-to-date. I guess it's a critical mass thing. People will not participate in sufficient numbers unless there it's quick, easy and has an immediate perceived personal benefit.
That probably needs a concerted publicity effort by the motoring organisation to get people on board and to keep them motivated.

Yeah I have - wasn’t bad, easy to use and uptodate. Saved me 13c/l on diesel at the time.

Yup ridiculous here as well in SA. Heard they were closing in on 1.60 in Adelaide a short while back. Price is 1.50 where I live, have never ever seen it this high here (our price is very steady and averaged being in the country, don't see the wild swings of the city).

Close to $1.60 in the Lower Hunter areas, nowhere is cheap now. I travel to Singleton every day, and Greta is normally the pick. My daughter goes to Newcastle every day and gets cheap fuel at Thornton, not sure what the price there is now though.

Considering we only have the fuel station in town, fuel here hasn't been too bad, been hovering around the $145.9.

It is just corporate coruption
Everyone gets paid off.
On the odd time a person will pipe up about a fuel investigation.....a few bucks from the oil companies and all quiet
Colusion plan as day ( like my spelling mistakes)
But no one will do a thing

Petrol Spy can be useful for real time pricing.

Noticed $1.62 the other day at Shellharbour (Wollongong) for E10, with up $1.85 for the prenium stuff.

Yet I bet when the next consumer price index comes out it will not reflect.

Oil prices have gone way up, the $A has fallen, but cannot help to think that now we do not refine anymore we are paying a margin for the import costs.
