The first whale sighting for this season was at Boomer Beach this morning, and apparently other whales are in the area. The following phone no,1900931223 cost 75 cents a minute, but may be worth the call to find out where the whales exactly are, or visit the Whale Centre Victor Harbor. Liz.

Thunda Hunta do you mean the whales were seen nearby Cape Jervis. This area is where the boats leave to go to Kangaroo Island, so what a bonus for any tourists to see a whale. We have had more sightings down here. I love it when the mother whale sends up a big spurt of spray, then a tiny spurt comes up from the calf. It is great just to stand on the cliff and watch them. Cheers, Liz

There has been 17 Whale sightings already this season down here on the South Coast.
The Whale Centre has advised that the mother whale and her calf is expected to stay here in this area for another week. Liz.

A Southern Right whale has been sighted today off Bashams Beach which is near Middleton. (The Port Elliot side). This is a good location to Whale watch from by just sitting in the car (if you can get a good car park). Currently the sun is out down here, have had a lot of rain, wind speed only 4 Knots, temp.about 13 degrees, so I suggest if you intend to go whale watching to wear plenty of warm clothes, as Middleton is not sheltered. Liz.

Right now down there I bet ur bottom dollar its more than 4 knots!!! Here its been 30knots all day long and the wind chill factor is horrendus!!!

Good too see some whales around at the moment....but in this weather they would prob move offshore.

Hi thunderstruck, Middleton maybe a bit windy and cold we haven't had any where near 30 knots today. Yes, I know the windspeed may be different there, even speeds at Port Elliot can be different to Victor. I have observed that sometimes when a Whale is sighted,we have rough weather. Liz.

This morning two whales were between Crockery Bay (near Port Elliot Caravan Park) and Basham's Beach, Middleton, and could be easily seen from the main Goolwa to Victor Harbor road. At the moment they are just off Basham's Beach. The Whale watching boat is at this location, as conditions are ideal to travel around from Victor. Liz.

Currently a whale is close in at Middleton. The sea is calm making it ideal for whale watching. The whale watching boat is at the vicinity of Goolwa Beach, obviously more activity there. Liz.

I have just heard on the local radio station that there are three whales at Petrel Cove which is near the Bluff carpark, Victor Harbor. This is a excellent viewing area. A beautiful morning ATM wind speed about 3 knots NW. Temp 10 degrees. Sunny. Viewing is easy from a car here, and also there are plenty of good standing/sitting areas. Liz.

We checked these whales out,and found that they had moved to nearby Kings Beach. They are on the move,as after watching them for a short while they began heading towards Waitpinga. Liz.

P.S. I am unsure if these are the whales that have been sighted in the Middleton area, if you are keen to whale watch,I suggest to ring the hotline number which I gave when this thread started. Liz.
