Lost? Or just getting in early? Certainly would have sparked some interest.

The skipper of the 1770 dive boat spotted 50 whales on his trip to the reef 3 days ago. It is great to see so many whales up and down our coast now. Migaloo the white wale was sppoted crusing past Port Macquarrie Last week and has by now probably reached his winter playground & checking out the babes in the Witsunday's.

I heard about it on the radio this morning, though to be honest it really was more of a dig at you kiwis than expressing any great sentiment. Apparently moko was famous for assisting with the rescue of some stranded whales.

Like Migaloo is to you guys (and myself, I hail from Brissy) Moko, Opo, Elizabeth the Seal & Pelorus Jack (which the cook strait ferrys emblazoned with).. more than folklore, more than a way of life.. it happens eventually I guess.

I saw a White Whale today!!! Actually that is how the Whale Centre described this whale in its log, but to me the colour was a pale grey. What a fantastic afternoon, for watching up to six whales, so if you can, head for Basham Beach Middleton on the weekend. It seemed, no matter which way you looked, there was a whale. These whales are moving, so again, check the Whale Cente log or start your day at Middleton. We sat in the car at Basham Beach and had a good view. The Barnacles on some of the Whales can be better viewed with binoculars, but it was just wonderful scanning the sea in front of us and there was plenty to see. Pec slapping, spy hopping, tale display, resting at the surface and blowing and, just cruising in general. There was a good line of surf closer to the shore, and 400metres out were the nearest whales just so easily seen. Two whales were very close to Fenchman's Rock near Fishermans Bay.
