Hi everyone. 7am, a perfect time to be whale watching at Basham Beach. Hardly anyone around, and so easy to park to get the best viewing spot. A bit of drizzle, light shower activity but no problems sitting in the car. Not far out, one Southern Right was slowly cruising, another close by. The sea was perfect to make sighting the Whales very easy, and I could see how big they were. Saw a Pec wave, spy hopping and of course blowing - the spray pushed away by the wind which would have made a perfect photograph.

Good news!! A month since the last whale sighting, and, today one was observed at Second Valley, 6 m off shore - feeding and blowing. As reported in the whale centre log, it swam under the jetty, after initially colliding with it!

Hey, have whales ever ventured up close/near the Beaches of Adelaide?
My mum told me a story of a whale of Adelaide in the late 90's.

Hi RT - I recall Hallet Cove was on their visit list - perhaps if you browse the archives of the SA whale centre log or even contact the Cente, they may be able to assist you. Cheers.

Hi all. Check out the Whale sighting log often as Southern Right Whale sightings 29/3 and Humpbacks 5/4. A Albino Dolphin has also been sighted apparently. I saw one years ago whilst we were out cruising by the Bluff - terrific to photograph!

2 Southern Right Whales at Basham Beach today. The organizers of the Whale festival in V/Hbr tomorrow will be pleased that the Whales are here.
The SA Whale centre has a good map where you can go to see the Whales and read about their behaviour.
If you are visiting this region without a car - why not catch the train to Goolwa tomorrow (and return!) from Victor. Supposed to be steam in the afternoon.
The train attendant usually points out the whale sighting locations e.g. Basham Beach.

13 Whale sightings today!!!!! Crockery Bay / Basham Beach area (near Port Elliot). This includes 3 calfs. Just fantastic.
There is a train tomorrow (Wed.) from Goolwa - Victor and return if you are in the area but have no transport. The train attendant will advise passengers where to look for whales.
If catching the train at Victor, call in to the Sa Whale centre which is next to the Railway Station to find out exactly where the whales are prior to making the train trip - if that helps.
(Another edit - of course the train will stop at Middleton for you,and Port Elliot.)
