Anyone care to comment on what they reckon their club will do with their list, I know some clubs, port in particular have already done the cutting, but people can still suggest who / what type of player to recruit.

For the crows, Bickley is retired, I reckon Marsh, Ben Nelson are definitely gone. Nigel smart is gunna play on, carey will too. Perrie has done enough to be retained. Players that may face delisting or trading are scott welsh, james gallagher, matthew bode, ronnie burns as the crows are gunna blood some fresh talent this year.

The type of player we really need to recruit is a true around the ground ruckman, a forward that can take a pack grab and a solid defender to be able to take on the big alistair lynch type forwards. Unfortuneately 75% of clubs need these as well so I dont like our chances.

Hey Rick.
A lot of us have already made our comments on who should go or stay in previous posts. We are just waiting now for the trade season to start. Could be some interesting times ahead....

I expect Essendon to pick up either Dean Cox from WCE, Matthew Allan from Carlton, Peter Street from Geelong or Ben Marsh from the Crows - they are after a relatively experienced ruckman to be back up for only 1-2 years to continue David Hille's development. Would get one of these pretty cheap, I think and wouldn't burst the budget.

Wouldn't surprise me either if we got Nick Stevens, in a deal involving Danny Jacobs and our 2nd pick. Carlton are keen on him - but no one wants to go to Carlton due to the massive hole there in which will take anothr 2-3 years to get out.

I expect Solomon to remain loyal to us and choose loyalty over dollars (fingers crossed), McVeigh could possibly be going back to Sydney - a deal involving O'Keefe has been rumoured.

David Teague from the Kangaroos is looking more likely by the day to be heading to the Bombers as well, which is fine with me as I've seen him play a few times with Port Melbourne and with the Kangaroos and he would be pretty handy. A swap would take place between him and Shane Harvey, who will be reunited with his brother Brent.

Matt, Stevens is between Carlton and Collingwood.....you guys have no room in the cap for him....Jacobs is being spoken to by a lot of clubs...

Our #2 pick isn't going to be traded....apparently Stevens wants to go to either the pies or blues....the pies don't really have much to offer (their first pick isn't until #18...and their 2nd and 3rd round picks are being used under the father/son rule)

Brett Johnson from Hawthorn will be at Carlton next year....we have lots of room in the cap...Corey will be off to the Roos for S Motlop or Makepeace...McKay will be retiring.

Matt, what would you guys give for Allan? :nerd:

Not a lot, maybe a draft pick or two (30+).

He will only be a back up, helper ruckman at best and will probably only be on the ground in 10-15 minute bursts through the game.

I don't think Carlton will be asking too much for him, he's just an inconvenience to them and they want to get rid of him.

Sorry to sound a little ignorant but Matty Allan is an All-Australian ruckman. He is ina terrible form slump but given a fresh start is a very good ruckman and would really rival Hille in for the 1st Rucking duties. Still, idf put Hille first, he has done nothing wrong.

For the crows, Ben Marsh and Daniel Schell MUST GO, they hardly gave a yelp in the SANFL GF, Schell 2 kicks 2 marks 3 handballs 1 goal and Marsh I think 7 kicks 2 marks 2 handballs 12 hitouts. Ben Nelson was runner up in the Magarey, he is a type of player the crows need imo, tough hard and physical, thats what the crows have always been all about and we dont want to change that way. proven at AFL level, damn unlucky not to get a go this year, but going by the way things seem to go...he will go. Dont want scummy Sturt to have him full time mad

Doughty is a solid player worth trading for something half decent, Gallagher never gets a fair go, is better thyan half the midfielders int he AFL, polished off both feet and is quick hands to feet and quick full stop.

So heres what id do if I were Ayres and coaching staff:

Retired: Bickley

Delist: Bock, Crowell, Marsh, Schell

Tradeable:Burns, Bode, Doughty, Mattner, Gallagher,

Would love to recruit:

Tim Inkster from Eagles
Heath Hopwood from Centrals
Jade Sheedy from Sturt
Craig Parry from Port
Eddie Sansbury from Centrals

Gowans twins but I know that wouldnt happen and id rather it didnt cos they are staying with the mighty bulldogs!! laugh

Both Ch.9 and 10 in Adelaide suggested Essendon is the front-runners tonight in their news services. Stevens to Essendon for a draft pick and Danny Jacobs.

I can't see how they will fit Stevens in the cap....Mercuri isn't going to take a cut...Melbourne are a real chance...they have 2 very low picks (3 and 5) one of which they could trade to Port...

I wonder where Guerra and Koula will end up? :nerd:

Koula needs to get his act together if he wants to play AFL, a good player at SANFL level but not a great one. Good enough to play for a team like Carlton but still only as a fringe player, ie he will be in and out of the team like a jack in the box, depending of course if he can string a few good games together.

Guerra on the other hand is a great player who would get 22 games a season on every club list but Port and Brisbane IMO, maybe Collingwood too. If roos get him he is most valuable in attack around the half forward line, but is more than handy at half back. I wish the crows would get him but alas no they wont.

Port would want a player who isnt going to blow their cap off and a very high 1st round draft pick. Jacobs and a top 10 pick would prolly suffice. Stevens is worth up to about pick #4 IMO any earlier than that and ud have to say no.

Im still hearing rumours that if he goes to Carlton they will trade their #2 pick, and also rumours about a deal involving the bulldogs and them trading their #1 pick to Port and they get #2 from Carlton in return for Stevens to go to Carlton. If Cooney goes to Port I'll be a MAD MAD MAN!

Lennie, I know for a fact that the PP2 isn't being traded...Stevens announcement will come in the next few days...Brett Johnson will be at Carlton...we may get S Motlop for McKernan...and the Allan+Murphy for Jacobs deal is nearly done!

I have it from a VERY reliable source that Stevens will nominate Carlton, as he wants to screw port (and get heaps of $$$ from us) and leave them with little (maybe one of our duds or a 4th round pick :p )

Would like to see the look on Choko's look if that happened! :p

It'll be Walker or Tenace...most likely Walker..

The way Richmond are going about things, they'll have to take major pay cuts in a year or 2 if they want to keep all their players, plus they'll have to get rid of Richo and Holland if they want Brown and Solomon. :p

Hey lennie, that call about Inkster is a good one! Not playing footy this year, ive had a bit of a chance to watch sanfl and Inkster was a bit of a standout. Havent heard much mentioned about him in the media but would be suprised if he didnt get drafted and I would be even more suprised if he didnt do well in the AFL.

Yep Ricky, I see him as a straight awap for Ronnie Burns who has past his used by date.

Sheedy is better than all of our fringe players and 2nd stringers

Parry is def better than Marsh and is only 19

Sansbury is 19, is fast and as u saw can kick goals

Hopwood is 27 but is a marking machine and possesion maching averaging some 23 touches a game on the half back flank. 189cm 88kg is a fair size.

No way.

Hawthorn have done better I reckon, they havent lost much and have gained a heap. Carlton lost Beaumont which leaves a huge hole in defence. Teague, Morrell are nothing great, Harford is so past his used by date he is nearly mouldy. Scotland is ur pick of the bunch id say, and of course Stevens who ull pick up im sure cos bulldogs will go after rawlings.

Problem is, Stevens has already declared he doesnt want to play for u guys and will hardly like going there.

If i wanted to play for the crows and port picked me up id be very mad, but only if a were an experienced player and not a first time rookie, obviously ud be stoked to play anywhere.

The manager of Nick Stevens has denied the midfielder ever refused to be traded to Carlton.

His manager Max Stevens confirmed on Fox Footy Channel on Friday both he and Port Adelaide had met with the Blues during trade week.

“I know for a fact Nick never said he didn’t want to play for Carlton. Our conversations with Denis Pagan and the Carlton people have been fantastic,” Max Stevens said.

“Carlton was always an option.”
http://afl.com.au/default.asp?pg=news&spg=display&articleid=124470

Beaumont is a hack, he was a Pagan hater, shocking disposal...Hawthorn got nothing for Rawlings, they got Jacobs for pick 6...Jacobs is hardly worth pick 6...

Harford may suprise a few next year, he didnt have a preseason this year...Pagan rates Johnson highly, Teague adds grunt to the backline, Morrell can be used in a number of positions.

Goddard didn't like going to St Kilda, but look at him now, he loves it and will play his whole career there. Players get over moving to different clubs.

At least you can say it's better then the list we had. :p

Word is Stevens will start pre-season training with Carlton on November 3. laugh
