i said yesterday i couldnt see anything between these two teams, today showed that. what a great game, the closest in 30years since the last drawn GF???
congrats sydney, you have been a great team (and certainly not the prettiest) for the last 2/3rds of the season and what a let down for the west coast, bar the last few weeks of the season, they were the most consistant, hard to swallow such a narrow win but WOW!! what a season, what a finals series, and what a grand final.
bring on 2006 - the year of the BOMBER!!!
muahahahaha

Well done Swannies!!
It was great the way Kirk, Hall and Roos all made reference to South, unlike that FW Voss when Brisroy won three in a row.
Good for Swans to break their drought before the 'pies win the next five. wink

What a game. I nearly had heart failure in those last few minutes. There was so much noise reverberating around the grandstands that we couldn't hear the siren. It was only once the swans players celebrated that we realised it was over. Amazing finish to a very tough contest.

Amazing last term of footy. We haven't seen a last quarter contest for an AFL Grand Final like that in my lifetime. Every contest was tough and hard - sensational courage and committment by all players. Any side would've been unlucky to loose it - but the Swans just were a little bit better at controlling the contested ball in the last 7 minutes - but only just.

Great mark by Barry and a terrific win. I remember the many seasons sitting in the empty stands watching the Swans at the SCG with 7000 people in the crowd in the early 90's - its great to see how far the Swans have come - and super to see the best team in the AFL win on the last Saturday in September!!!

GO BLOODS!

That would have to be the most thrilling climax I have seen in a Grand Final since 1966 when Barry Breen kicked the winning point for St Kilda late on time on in the last quarter.

Congrats to Sydney on their win. Game wasn't a great skillfest but had everything else and the 2nd close GF in 4 years which is a good thing also. I preferred the 2002 game, apart from the bloody result, but love seeing close GFs. Awesome mark Leo Barry, talk about a pack mark!

I'm following NRL now due to a bet made in #weather smile If the Swans style of footy wins flags it will be similar viewing anyway laugh

was in the city late last night, and the city was still going off, both WCE and Swans fans out in force across melb, singing, dancing, abusing!! people congratulating swans fans in the streets and on the trains. great to see.
also enjoyed some great renditions of the clubs songs on my walk down Flinders St, including a choir of Saints supporters singing their club song between platforms 4-7 in full chorus!!
** also, one thing i remembered last night. the umpiring of the match, esp in the 2nd half the umps were hardly noticed, and thats always a good thing. congrats to the umps on what i thought was a great performance by them aswell, let play go when the situation required it and let play go on and gave advantage at the right times. well done to the umps again!

Yes Mick - i agree totally per that game - i watched the my taped replay last nite - (result was still the same wink )but at the finish i sat there thinking that it was a great game in which u hardly noticed the umpiring, what was applied was needed, what was let go was fair - why can't it be like that every week instead of one in a blue moon ??? both teams have some deep soul searching to do if they are going to feature in next years GF - WCE went into the GF without having an established forward structure - its been lacking all year.......
i also think Swans "flooding" can be a trap if opposition teams learn to deliver straight down the ground in a run-on game.
if the Swans had lost, i think O'loughlin would have been battling to look his team mates in the face - he had a real shocker - i think it best showed when in the last quarter Swans made entry into the 50 - he presented & his team mate deliberately ignored him and pumped the ball into the square.....the big mark in the last 10 secons from one of the shortest in the pack must go down in Swans history, it could so easily have been WCE mark and a shot at goal from 15 meters out after the siren....thats how close it was!!! a great way to finish a season that was full of the unexpected all the way thru....the winner was footy as well as the Swans.
despite the loss i'm going to enjoy collecting my $75 tomorrow - how i love fanatical supporters wink

also, more good news in the tv ratings on channel 10. this was the 2nd highest rating grand final, coming 2nd after the 1996 GF, also with the swans of course.
a peak of 1.2million people watch the match in sydney, average of 991 000 for the match.
over in perth, viewer peakage was at 570 000 with the aveage being 512 000.
nationally the match peaked at 4million people with an average audiance of 3.4million.
awesome stuff, and bar some slight technical glitches at the start of the match was a very good GF coverage by channel 10.

Blah, who cares about ratings. They have absolutely no idea how many people would be watching the AFL GF. It would be a lot more than they would try to quote.

Congratulations to the Mighty Swans. The Bloods have waited too long to see a VFL/AFL flag again. Leo Barry's amazing defensive mark will go down in history as one of the game's greatest moments. We won't see a GF like that again for a long time...
