Teckert, this opens the door for every country to call for certain umpires to not officiate if they are unhappy. I agree he had a shocker and personally I hope he gives it soon but he might have come back and made excellent decisions.

Ricky is arrogant and when you are the captain of one of the most successful sporting teams in the world ever, this is understandable. To call for him being sacked is ridiculous.

I wonder if they'd be whinging and sulking if they'd won? The idea that they can demand all kinds of things is incredible. What next, will they demand that Australia let them win the next one?

And if "monkey" is a "term of endearment" to Indians (bollocks), it'll be OK for Australian players to use it at them?

Teckert I agree re. Bucknor being dropped

If I have a bad game in RL the drop me to the grade below what I was doing, or they give me a first Vs Last type game but still in the same grade until I prove myself again.

It is ludicrous to basically tell umpires that they have already been appointed to matches that far in advance. What incentive is there to make sure you give 100% to each game if you know you'll be there no matter what. I really like Steve Bucknor as an umpire he has a lot of character and adds heaps to the game of cricket. But his performance was poor and he probably needs to face some repercussions for that. Just like all the Rugby League refs, the AFL umpires, Basketball referees in fact almost all other sports officials are put under some pressure to perform so should cricket umpires. I'm pretty sure they're full time professionals (I was going to call them athletes like us leagueies and AFL guys are but then I though of a few of them and can't justify the athlete tag for cricket umpires - sorry boys).

Yes job security is good for umpires but I know from experience at a semi professional and hobby level with league that it also lets you get comfortable. Every sporting person will tell you when you feel comfortable you start to get lazy and stop striving to excel at your job and consequently your performance diminishes. Umpiring and refereeing are no different the more comfortable you get the lazier you get and the more your performance diminishes. I find now that I'm placed on notice to perform every week or get dropped I have to work hard every week at bettering myself, making sure all my decisions are correct etc. I can't imagine why it should be any different for cricket umpires.

However, it would be a terrible precedent that the ICC sets should he be dropped because a team simply didn't like him. Teams are allowed to make complaints about officials, that's their right and that should never change, as long as they back this up with clear evidence. If the evidence is there that Bucknor had a bad game and not just one bad decision but a bad game then I'm all for him being dropped for the next test. But for God's sake don't drop him into oblivion give him some crappy Bangladesh game where he can show his qualities and redeem himself again. As I say he adds a lot to cricket and it would be sad if they sacked him.

The ICC was never going to drop him until the Indians put pressure on them so your last paragraph comes into play there nitso. In rugby league etc, it is the official body that says an ref will not do the next game with or with not a team wanting him to be dropped. The ICC made the decision to keep him on and they backed down.

I just saw clips from the Indian newses on the SBS news saying how hard done by they are(Indians). Fair dinkum. They are not hard done by in a long way. Imagine what they would be saying if the ICC had grown a backbone and stood up to them for once.

Oh well just forget international cricket ! A great night tonight at Telstra enjoyed with 23000 others as we watched a great game of cricket played in great spirit and fun. Topped off by a rousing standing ovation for Glenn Mcgraths last ball on Australian soil. (putting aside his batting and catching performance though  )

Its a simple solution . Just go watch the guys play who are out there for the right reasons and the others will soon catch on.

India's cricket tour of Australia will continue as scheduled after the sport's world governing body moved to diffuse a snowballing crisis, a senior source said today.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will announce the continuation of the tour at the end of its working committee meeting in New Delhi later today, the source said.

"The tour will go on, we never said it won't,'' a senior BCCI source said.

"A formal announcement will be made tonight.''

Well the Indians keep getting what they want. They have removed Bucknor and Harbhajan can play until the appeal is heard which could be after the series. To me, the appeal must be right away so if he is going to get the ban it can be implemented right away or if the case goes in his favour, he can be let off right away. India just keep getting what they want and it must stop.

Yep, I hope Australia demolish them and hit Harbhajan (if he plays in Perth as they could take in 3 pace bowlers and Kumble) for 0-200 off 30overs.

I think India deserved a draw as they were on the wrong end of a few controversial decisions by the umpires, but if Harbahjan did make a racist comment, he deserves to be banned.

At least the Indian captain didn't stay in the dressing room and refuse to play (Like Inzamam ul-haq did after the ball tampering incident with Darrell Hair at the Oval in August 2006). That was a real shame as it ruined what was an exciting test match.

Too right. I think we will see a record number of people ejected from the ground lol.

I'll be at the Adelaide test (assuming it goes ahead) with hostilities on maximum. Just trying to think of a good banner to take :p

I've got a few suggestions but nothing that will make this forum lol... wink
Monkey isnt a racist term for Indians so feel free to use that word as much you like... just dont use 'bastard' apparently...

I do wonder what will happen to Brad Hogg when he goes up on his charge of abusing the Indians... seriously - he was just sledging so should get off with a warning to cool it, but I think the Indians will be upset even more if he doesnt also get a ban, but if that happens, then this whole things is even more of a farce....

The Indians will probably demand he gets the full punishment and get their way again. The sooner they get out of here the better I say.

One things for sure, the perth and Adelaide test matches will heat up for sure, and wouldn't be suprised if more words will be said on the field in both test matches.

With the Brad Hogg incident, did the umpires hear him calling Kumble a "Bastard" because if not, then another Indian player would report the incident just like Ponting did to dob Singh in.

Looking foward to the game anyways. smile

The WACA curator is worried that all this crying by the indians will make the WACA pitch too soggy to play on. The curator will have the covers sitting outside the boundary on the tractor, just in case of a 'poor' decision by the umpire.
