I got through no worries. It would be interesting to find out who is responsible for the DoS attack. Smaks of a 'hactivist' effort.

I was voting in the local government election late this afternoon. Got asked for my Christian name. Had no idea what she meant, until she said your Christian name is your first name. I'd never heard of that expression before today.

It caught me by surprise so I was still processing this new piece of information, but next time (if there is a next time) I'll think of a smart answer, haha.

Yeah I thought it was intended as a joke.

I have little doubt. I have been asked what my Christian name is for half a century so am a little surprised this is your first time.

I was public schooled ('96-'08) and raised in a non-religious family. Maybe it's more common in other parts of the country and/or among certain age groups.

Maybe it's not as common these days. Saying Merry Christmas offends certainl religions so perhaps this does too?

So I got my don't come in next Monday email from school. The miniscule school budget has been spent for IT support so no more work until Jan next year. That plus Palletjack (Qld Premier) ripped $500k out of the school bank accounts for some boondoggle in Brisbane which effectively stripped the school Special Education budget for the year so that had to be made up from somewhere (we have 114 special needs students out of 600 students) so several positions have to be dropped for 5 days to 3 or 2 and in my case from 2 days a week to 5 hours a week (what the hell can you do in 5 hours a week?) and people urged to go on long service leave, to cut the payroll and try and scrape up enough money to keep the school running which is utter bullshit. I am sick and tired of this bulldust state government running rough shod over schools and doing crap like this. I spent more time recycling dead computers to try and keep a core of 70 computers running than anything else I should have been doing like maintenance, network faults, software rollouts etc. I left school yesterday with 3 dead computers and another 3 needing to be reimaged but no time to do it in. So they will be still sitting there if I get reemployed next year and that's not even confirmed. So I may not have a job at all next year. I am ropable.

The joys of being a casual employee in Education Queensland. Sigh. Anyway off to the Mater on 18th October for a knee replacement so I would have been house bound for a couple of months anyway but that's not the point. There is no permanent position for an IT Tech in primary schools so poor old mugs like me work week to week for years on end with no job security, no holiday or sick pay or any other benefits.

That $500K was for things like a wireless network upgrade ($154k) because only 6 out of 17 buildings have wifi access for teachers, the replacement of 70 desktop computers ($55K) server upgrade ($35k) and various ground improvements and other things like new shade shelters, seating, play equipment etc. all either put back by 2 years at much higher costs or dropped completely.

Sorry for the rant, I will crawl back into my shell again.

It wasn't that long ago that many rusted on Liberal supporters in these blogs were celebrating the Newman government sacking 14,000 public servants. Though he replaced most of them with temps from his donor's employment agencies at much greater cost than he saved.

The same people took every opportunity to swipe at "lefties" and unions at every opportunity. The very same unions that fought for permanent positions, public holidays, long service leave and heaven forbid, long service leave.

On evidence it seems Palaszczuk (yes, I can spell) has got this one right in certain cases. Funny how things work out.
